In order: 1. Accepting Christ 2. Marrying my bride 3. Birth of my daughter 4. Putting on a Kingsmen uniform again for the first time in 29 years and marching in the alumni corps. Eternally grateful.

I always had a thing for this corps. I saw them for the first at the 69' VFW Nationals In Philly. They were a great corps.

I sit here amazed 17 years after this appearance, and my first thoughts were, "I wonder how long and what logistics it took to rehearse for this remarkable show?", and for 15 minutes I was transported back 50 years ago from when I started my drum corps journey, and echo back to the MILLIONS of people who may have forgotten things over a half-century, but always remember every field they marched on. And like the Kingsmen remind us: "So very hard to go".

I remember seeing their 1972 DCI winning championship performance. To think that all of those years later, 35 years at the time to be exact, they could still pull this many members for this remarkable performance of the Kingsman glory days I do miss drum corps of the way it used to be. They had the best of everything from the drum line, horn line, marching drill, and not to mention the best rifle squad that ever has been. Now at nearly 70 years of age, this brought back so many great memories for me of when I marched in a real drum and bugle corps, especially compared to the theatrical performances of today’s drum corps. In my mind, the Kingsman will not only be the first DCI champions, but the best of all time.

To be accurate, this was not recorded at DCI (in Pasadena that year), it was recorded at Veteran's Memorial Stadium in Long Beach, CA, I believe on Wednesday night of Finals week. Very nice crowd in attendance...a fun night.

Just a teenager looking into older dci content, and though the marching isn’t the cleanest (which is to be expected, also the video quality is awful), the music is on point! Absolutely amazing, just as good as some modern corps

This reminds me so much of my playing days (Harrison County High School, Cynthiana KY) back in the 1980's. It appears show choreography and music hadn't changed much from the 70's to 80's. Watching this reminded me of the great Lafayette High School bands from back then. Maybe North Hardin or GRC.

Crown Imperial!!!! I had no idea they played this. I played it with 27th in 1980! Those snares! Amazing. This is 10 times more entertaining than the mis mash of woke shows with themes and amplification happening now. Thank you Kingsmen!

I was captain of an 8 person sabre section in an award winning high school color guard and band. 1970-72. Norwin in PA. Best band memory- band separating as American flag came up middle with sabre section leading the way. Sent goose bumps. Just searched for something online that might bring back the memory. This video is AMAZING!! Watched it more than once and will continue. No sabre section but this was certainly a close match. Sent chills, when Johnny comes marching home. Super job, such dedication. No one has posted here for quite a while, But I pray somebody in this corps sees that somebody really appreciates the stellar work that you did as evidenced by this video clip!! Wow!

In my opinion, DC I unfortunately has turned what was one of the greatest activities in North America, they turned it into a marching band competition today. July 8th 2023 the marching band competition is superimposed on a three ring circus. We no longer have real drum and bugle Corps, like what you are witnessing now the alumni Corps, there were approximately 7,000 Junior and senior drum and bugle Corps throughout North America, only about 20, to 25% competed in marching and maneuvering competitions, many of them was strictly for parades, many of them competed in parades and standstill competitions, as they improved and progressed they would move into their, competing drum and bugle Corps the audience attendance for the activity was ahead of Major League Baseball oh, that's saying a lot. More people attended competitions mainly on weekends, but in the local area that could be as many as three or four competitions in a single weekend Obama within an hour to maybe two or three hours max. The stadiums would be jam-packed. National competition if you had the finances and you were doing well in competition you might go to the Nationals, depending on where they were geographically from your local area. State competitions generally work jam-packed with competing, Drum Corps I remember 1961 New York State they were over 100 competing organizations, I was snare drum up with the Floyd Bennett golden eagles from Brooklyn New York in 1961 we came in second place in New York state, and that was our second year in competition. Other organizations hits similar, stories to tell. I started in 1956 in junior competition, 1964 I join the Long Island Sunrisers that's senior competition, we finished the 1968 season by winning the American Legion National Championship in New Orleans Louisiana, we charted the plane, to make the trip most rum course it's similar things generally the seniors with Charter planes if they could afford it, juniors, when usually travel by bus, and there are millions of, stories about those trips. Is that were in these Drummondville course you could write a book on some of the stories they could tell. Anyway today there are no longer Real Drum and bugle Corps may they all rest in peace many of the alumni organizations like the Anaheim Kingsman, conjure up so many great memories, for so many of us. By the way the Anaheim Kingsmen when I first saw them compete they blew my socks off they were outrageous. Many of the alumni course that exist today, are struggling to keep them together. Major problem, interest in the activity and financing, that's always a problem. Anyway thank you for posting the ni in Kingsman, again for me, brings back great memories

10 years ago I bought a tenor set that was used in this show. To this day, I still play the guessing game of which set out of 10 it was. Got quite a lot of use out of them. Don't play much anymore but now it's awesome to own a small piece of DCI history.

Thank you for sharing this. I really enjoy these early DCI films. While I do enjoy modern as well, I think something has been lost in the evolution….real marching and that quality of precision in drill and guard work.

Was it the rule of the day to begin the show on one end of the field and end on the other? I’ve noticed that about most of these early shows. I started watching DCI only in 1977….the Denver finals hosted by Gene Rayburn.

Yes, it was the first year of DCI so they held onto the old American Legion/VFW rules. That changed pretty quickly. Just watched a video of 1973 Kingsmen and they entered from the back side with the colorguard lined up on the field on the 50 yard line.

What?!?!? You mean drum corps used to actually march? And the color guard actually performed with precise movements? Where’s the dancing. Dammit….I wanna see dancing in my drum corps!!!! (You may now turn off the sarcasm feature in your KZbin.)

I was a second soprano player in the pre-DCI Falcon Cadets of Elizabeth NJ in that year, we were contenders for the class B Garden State finals and I remember our horn instructor Glenn Eng (RIP) used to tell us to try and sound like Anaheim, in my view the Anaheim was the top corps in the VFW circuit and they were superior to most of the top corps back then like Blue Rock, the Golden Knights which i was a member of for one year and the Casper Troopers were tough as well. Corps like the Blue Devils, Santa Clara, the Racine Kilties, the all-female Audubon Bon-Bons and the great Madison Scouts used to mesmerize me with their size, power, range, m&m skill and repertoires, i'm and old warhorse in my late 60s now and those wonderful times and experiences will be with me as long as i live and beyond folks, for me Anaheim was the top of the heap during the pre-DCI era, i learned so much that found me in the 1st Marine Division Drum Corps to end my d&b experience there, the ride was a fascinating and adventurous one and Anaheim was a big part of that exposure... I would be remiss not to mention the excellent 27th Lancers, so precise, the jazz riffs and Scottish-style drumming set a blistering pacefew corps could match...📌✔️👀✨👍🏽

I was there, I marched for two years, I finally got my time in the stadium lights, I can watch this over and over and never get tired of the excitement it brings to all of my senses. Hearing the horns in Johnny, seeing a fellow drummer on film, tasting the "green/yellow Gatorade," smelling the sweat and hot equipment emanating from the field and finally, feeling anxious and proud and psyched and pumped for All time.

Please notice their Drumline, their snare line in particular, they sound like real snare drums, not like cardboard boxes used today. They're playing very difficult rudimental parts, unlike the drummers today playing, rimshot at the rimshot at the rimshot, arms flaring up in the air all over the place, juggling with a clown, and playing very very few rudiments, approximately three or four at most. Their heads of bobbing, keep repeating. It is pathetic it's an insult to any real rudimental drummer. We no longer have real rudimental drummers. May they all rest in peace. Today is August 20th 2022. Former member of the Floyd Bennett golden eagles 1960 and 1961, and former member of the Long Island sunrises 1964 through 1968.

This clip, shows the world what a real drum and bugle c o r p s, was. We no longer have, Real Drum c o r p s. In my opinion DCI is the reason for the demise of what was one of the greatest youth activities throughout the United States and Canada. Currently this is August 20th 2020, they turn the activity into a marching band competition, superimposed on the three ring circus. No offense to marching bands. But call it what it is it is not, a drum and bugle c o r p s.

I had just got home from being stationed in Japan, honorable discharge from active USN to the USNR, SeaBees, this was my first corps show being back in the USA and seeing this DCI thing ? And No Props or Electrics ! Went to school using the GI Bill and then made a military Army Career. My brother and I played in a few WI junior corps, but the best times were with the Kenosha WI Kingsmen. A senior corps that looking back maybe ? was one of the first all age corps ! Whitewater WI Always a great location for a corps show
