As a "nobody" without whom Heat would've lost the finals. You should remember that

If I remember...Ray Allen and Kevin Ollie for GP and Desmond Mason(dunk contest champ) and some others no-name players. Allen was 28,GP was 35 (and still a 20 + ppg, 8+ apg, 5+ rpg and 1,5 +spg) I love Allen and Payton, I can't say who's better. Probably, after 50 years, Payton will be remembered more than Ray-Ray.

@FuturePBABowler good enough to guard MJ MY BUTT! how come he couldn't contain him in 1996 playoffs? ? and plus he didn't show up in the finals cuz Pip WAS stopping his every move and was posting him up and scoring at will so was MJ!
@cburns168913 жыл бұрын
@kobyyeth123 ya but that trade happend simply cause George Karl wanted Payton back, also Seattle dealt him because of his contract situation and ya he was getting old. ya Kemp was on his way to greatness when he let his life get wrecked. but ya im just saying i dont think Rose would wax the floor with GP guarding him, i think with them both in there primes it be a great match-up. I still like CP3 out of todays point guards
@cburns168913 жыл бұрын
GP from 1994-2002 was the best PG in the NBA, he put up 20-24 ppg, 5-8 rpg, 7-9 apg and 2-3 spg. So i would say GP just didnt have the talent around him from around 1999-2002. From 1993-1998 he led Seattle to 3 60 plus win seasons. He's one of the top 10 point guards of all time and in the top 3 defensive point guards of all time- so i think he is a threat like that. I would say the one guy that would take GP to school out of modern day PG's would be CP3- he is the most complete point guard

@cburns1689 and u cant compare payton and billups- payton is a 9 time all star, 9 time all defense- billups cant touch that...
@cburns168913 жыл бұрын
@kobyyeth123 well then youre saying that Rose is a better scorer than Jordan cuz he held MJ to 22 a game in the Finals.... were going to agree to disagree- not taking anything away from D Rose- great player!
@cburns168913 жыл бұрын
@kobyyeth123 gary could definitely contain Nash, Rose, Deron, Cp3, the Glove did it against those guys of his day- KJ, Stockton, Tim Hardaway, Nick Van Exal, Penny... Payton held MJ to 22 a game and under 50 percent shooting- what makes you think Rose is different- he is fast but GP would body him up and frustrate Rose with his size- im not saying Rose wouldnt score but he would definitley keep him in check... and on the other end i dont think Rose could guard Payton.

all these who vs who debates, always comes down to 'oh he got more rings'. I think people are just trying to compare abilities and athleticism of these super star players and some fans are alwasy bound to get defensive...Chill out people, people are individuals, they are unique and good in their own way and stat sheet is just a tool for reflection but not a defining mechanism.. I am sure most of these star players pay a lot of respect to each other and it is always WE who 'fight' over all this.

@DroppinKnowledge69 well for one thing. i never said GP was better than MJ. all i said is that GP could have averaged 30 some odd points a game if he shot the ball as much as MJ did. and that the 96 finals would have been closer in GP wasnt injured the first few games. So yes. I think GP could have easily been the same caliber scorer MJ was. It just wasnt in the Sonics game plan to have 1 guy shoot the ball the whole time.
@NickBigsmoke13 жыл бұрын
@DroppinKnowledge69 you are presenting no facts to support your argument. I think its clear that I am right and your just an ignorant stubborn child.
@NickBigsmoke13 жыл бұрын
@DroppinKnowledge69 your unbelievable. check the stats MJ shot the ball nearly 2000 times every season he played. GP averaged less than 1500 attempts a season. I guarantee you if GP shot the ball 2000 times a season he would be averaging 30 some odd points a game just like your beloved Michale Jordan. I am right and your wrong. EAT IT!!
@NickBigsmoke13 жыл бұрын
@DroppinKnowledge69 alls im saying is that Payton or Kemp could have averaged 30 points a game if they shot the ball as much as MJ.
@NickBigsmoke13 жыл бұрын
@DroppinKnowledge69 the only reason MJ scored so many points was because he shot the ball like 30 times a game.
@NickBigsmoke13 жыл бұрын
@Domini478 ever heard of shawn kemp. He would beat MJ one on one any day.
@NickBigsmoke13 жыл бұрын
@Domini478 i think it was the other way around. Seattle didnt have GP the first 3 games. those easily could have been wins. series might have been closer or we might have even won the series if gp wasnt injured. MJ is overated anyway.

He was siiiktacular.. he had the illest assists, and his defense was impenetrable. He'll mainly be known for his amazing setups to Shawn Kemp. He'd set the plate, and then the beast would devour it. But now that I think about it.. anyone could have done his job.. just toss the ball ANYWHERE in the air.. it didn't even have to be placed in the gym, and Kemp would go get it and slam it home.
