Jeff forgot to mention other day was watching your video about princes road from 2022 you mentioned about Princes Park did you know both Birkenhead Park and Princes Park where both designed by the same person Joseph Paxton. I know you don’t do Wirral but thought I’d let you know there putting a bid in for Birkenhead Park to get world Heritage Status of course Central Park in New York is based on Birkenhead Park. Look forward to more soon Jeff.

A Liverpool football player (Aldridge?) was brought up just around the corner from Banks Road (by the tannery). Even when his son made it ‘big’, old man Aldridge refused to move and so his son transformed the 2up-2 down into like something out of ‘Dallas’- all gold and mirrors (I installed a bathroom suite there that was worth more than the (rented) house).

Hi in 1947 My grandma Mrs E Burke lived at Rydal Mount corner of Woolton St and Speke Rd. She had the keys to the Hall. I was 7 yrs old. Remember standing at bottom of staircase. The occasion was her son, my uncle was visiting from the US. The men including my Dad stood somewhere on the roof to see the view towards Widnes etc. There was a cottage/lodge up lhs path up thro the metal gate where u took a shot. I remember puppies in a box by the fireplace. Grandma was born on 1869. Im nrly 85.

Jeff another thing did you ever hear about the World War Two bomb being dropped and landing in the big gas tank. My gran always told me about it when she was here. She said a man by the name of Harold Newgass who was to do with sorting out bombs went into the gas tank and got it out and sorted it. Had the bomb gone off the whole of the gass works would have been destroyed including most of the surrounding area of Garston. Thought I’d mention that.

As an expat (left Liverpool in 70’s but it has never left me) I really value Jeff’s videos. Some channels seem intent on showcasing Liverpool’s worst areas and the comments are often from those who have bought into a certain populist political ideology. Certainly show ‘warts an all’ but dont forget the other stories and rich history. Never really knew the Garston area but my remaining Liverpool ‘family’ are all in that area. Thanks Jeff. Glad you are back fit and well.
@Jeff1photo11 күн бұрын
I know the channels you mean. Liverpool like every city has its nice areas and rough areas, to just show the worst doesn't paint a true picture. Nice to be back… thanks for the comment.

I knew Window Lane because my mother worked at Larson's Tobacconists. I also know a few interesting facts because my hobby is constructing family trees. I discovered a murder at the dock end of Window Lane had taken place in Victorian times with the perpetrator being a relative of the chap whose tree I was doing. In WW2 a chap received the George Cross in connection with the gas works. Let's see what you can find Jeff.... My favourite place was the Garston tram sheds...

I used to get the 500 bus from Walton to Garston in the 1960’s to go to the Ford’s social club that was on Window Lane. I used to go there to a Judo club that was held on a Sunday afternoon and one evening during the week. The mat was laid out in the middle of a large room surrounded by tables with people drinking their beer. Thinking about it now this was bloody dangerous as you had to be careful not to be thrown off the mat and landing on the tables 😅. Don’t recognise the Lane at all today… 🤓👍
