Up until recently, the conversion between the British pound and the US dollar was such that the price you quoted for books in the UK and the price books are here in the US would be ~the same (maybe even slightly cheaper on the US end depending on how weak the dollar was at the moment). With the current conversion rate, UK prices are way better, but that hasn't been the norm for the past...idk, decade? The pound used to be anywhere from ~1.5-1.7x the dollar, even up to nearly 2x the dollar at times. The prices (at least in the US) have been fairly consistent, to my knowledge, for the last 5-10 years (maybe a $1-2 increase in price for hardcover over the last decade, but that might have been over more than a decade tbh). It's not like prices are going to drop because the conversion becomes more beneficial - the US economy is dealing with inflation & other negative factors so I doubt prices would be going down anytime soon (plus, depending on the state, there may be a sales tax applied to the purchase)

Adult hardcovers are always the most expensive
