Incredible Gedda. I do not like the comparison of artists. But Gedda was simply class on his own. I checked many versions. This one is probably the best. Surprisingly, I like it more than Gigli.

James Morris, one of very best bass-baritone stage actors of all time. Tall, good looking, tremendously beautiful voice. Thanks for sharing.

This is fine rendition, but prefer Rita Streich's and/ or Bjorlings versions.Also Domingo makes a good job of it.

I does not have sence to compare approach ov various artists. Gedda, Domingo, a nd others cannot be categorized. They are class on their own

There are many ways to sing any song. This tenor's version is beautiful and completely legitimate. Not affected or insincere at all.

semplicemente divino!

Morris sang so beautifully and lyrically in this opera, while also singing Wotan around the world during this time period. He final high note is strained (a note that's difficult for all bass-baritones), but the rest of the aria is wonderful. Also, the Nicklausse in this performance, Susan Quittmeyer, is his wife!

Yes, yet Bjorling's is matchless, but then he sang Italian and German also clearer than natives.
@thierrymorice19817 жыл бұрын
affected and insincere - McCormack, Clément, Devriès, D'Arkor, even Tino Rossi, where are you?
@jimdrake-writer6 жыл бұрын
+Thierry Morice: We may disagree about “insincerity” in his performance, but the mismatch between this aria-lullaby and his almost spinto voice is clear to anyone who has heard the tenors you listed, plus one American: Richard Crooks.
@BernardProfitendieu5 жыл бұрын
Tino Rossi's is my favorite version, obviously he's not an opera singer, but I think he captures the sweetness of the young seminarian praying over the sleeping 'boy' in the wild (actually a girl disguised as a boy, coz, hey, it's an opera)
@shirleyrombough81732 жыл бұрын
How could anyone think this perfirmance was affected and insincere? Gedda was always simple, clear and respectful of the music.

II admire McKellar's splendid singing of this beautiful aria,. but I think Bjorling is perhaps even lovelier. However, having recently heard Domingo,.a usually reliable artist .i'm baffled by his strenuous and rushed treatment of this lullaby...

Have you heard Gigli's 1926 london recording of this wonderful song. Probably my favourite whcih suited his lyrical voice, however I am also a great fan of Jussi!
