Thanks for your note, and I get it. Sadly, many fun group games are presented poorly, so I apologise if this content was not what you were looking for, but the principles I share are critically important.

I tried this with my team but they refused to take part because they said it invaded their personal space and they didn't like being touched. I've no idea how to overcome this objection.

I hear you Peter, although I have never experienced this issue with my groups. I have two suggestions: 1. It is not critical that people link arms - you could simply ask people to stand next to the person they have 'connected' with. 2. I think the key is how you have framed the experience in advance. What types of activities are you presenting before you get to this icebreaking experience? Take a look at this video tutorial for more details about what I mean > www.playmeo.com/episode14/

@@playmeo-group-games Another issue is that the older team members just find it infertile and insulting to be asked to do it team building exercises. On the whole they just refuse to engage...and that is no matter how it's framed.

@playmeo-group-games11 күн бұрын
I get it Peter, and as one of many 100s of great teambuilding experiences out there, I would suggest avoid presenting it to your group too - choose something else. My strongest recommendation would be to look at how you have framed or prepared your group in advance of the task. I have never met resistance from my groups when presented with this challenge, and it has everything to do with how I, as a facilitator, prepare my group both physically and emotionally for the challenge. There is only ever one reason a person or group resists something, and that is when they are feeling uncomfortable. Work hard at increasing this comfort and you'll meet success.
@peterreed956611 күн бұрын
@playmeo-group-games I hear you. However especially the older team members find it very insulting and infentile to be asked to do team building exercises. They go through the motions but never engage.

Hello! What are some of the ways one can understand if a game will be fun or not for a group of people when they are preparing it without previous experience of facilitation?

Usibg your voice volume scale, the effect of whispering on a group is fascinating. I start giving an instruction at a whisper and the noise dies down by the time tou have repeated a phrase 2 or 3 times as they strain to listen. A few years ago, I had a throat infection and had to whisper for 2 months. People automatically whispered back to me!
@playmeo-group-gamesАй бұрын
Ha! I love it. And this is exactly the impact I discover too when I lower my voice. Typically, those first few seconds I just utter pure gibberish (because I don't want the group to miss anything important) and then as the attention returns back to me, I drop into whatever I need to say to be heard....
@montanacrossesАй бұрын
Say to the quiet ones....in a quiet voice....."I think it's getting too loud let's step away " So we step forward or away...Then a larger group says...the same thing until we have moved to the other side of the room. Then when it's quiet..we move back. I use a British accent I have also started to write in Hebrew something on the board...Then everyone wants to know what it says Again in Hebrew the alphabet and the pictogram Tha goes with each letter. Total different direction make a humming noise like a plane and tell the story of the Tuskegee airmen Boys vs Girls...Hand clap sequence..who does it better I set the tone in the beginning by having everyone circle around me but don't touch my finger tips...I spin around until they are in a circle...Then I introduce myself and give them a little preview of the lesson...tell them my expectations...and add " I am going to have a great time today whether you want to or not ..well it's up to you...But I am going to be ALL IN and give you everything I've got... If YOU want to be all in...Let's roll our wings..our arms....OUT....On 3 we will roll them in and say ALL IN! I also smile a lot and put some excitement in my voice! I have done a lot of Science and Social Studies outside. I find children and adults learn better in nature. So say someone is chatting alot or hitting their neighbor with a pencil...I might walk by them and compliment their behavior...and say..Tom I really have never seen anyone use a pencil like that..your pencil skills are extraordinary..how do you do it...?? Very good job..I award you BEST USE OF PENCIL..there is usually a good laugh...then I look at him in the eyes..and say ..Now give me your kind attention...Can you do that? Just some fun things!!

Hi there, I have used the Playmeo connect tiles twice in the last week. Both sets of clients had a great time putting the puzzle together. And there was a lesson for me, too. In both cases the client wasn't quite done at the official start time. And insisted upon finishing before we began. They were fully engaged and had to solve the problem
@playmeo-group-gamesАй бұрын
Hey Jen, your experience mirrors mine - most groups insist that they complete the Connectiles team puzzle before we 'officially' start. Thanks for sharing.. the real things will be out early 2025.

One way I have participants respond to what I have been teaching is to have them pull out their phones and go to the keyboard as though they were going to write a text. I have them choose a key to respond to: Delete: what am I going to stop doing; Shift: what am I going to shift in what I do; Exclamation Mark: Something I am excited to try; Plus Sign: what is something new that I learned that I am going to add to my teaching; Quotation Mark: something that was said that I need to keep remembering. Obviously, there are many others you can refer them to or have them find on their own.

I enjoyed listening to this, and it helps keep me on track. Here are a few other questions I ask depending on the circumstances: What was your strategy? What worked? What were the difficulties? What did you learn? or What was a turning point? How can you use this information? How can you be more effective? At the end, I ask them to choose two things they are going to work on and how they will know if they are being successful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience to help us be better facilitators! Gina
@playmeo-group-games2 ай бұрын
Ah yes, I like the "What was a turning point...." question, another favourite. I would also like to emphasise what you say towards the end of your comment - to ask your group what success or learning will look (sound & feel) like when it occurs. Thanks for sharing.
@christopherbrahan17942 ай бұрын
This is super helpful! I think many times as facilitators, we get stuck into debrief frameworks (high low buffalo, rose bud thorn, one word whip etc) and we treat debriefs as a chore, rather than a moment of importance. These questions are a great way to ask critical thinking questions to a group. One question I always tell new facilitators is to think how they deliver a debrief question. Sometimes circling up and going one by one is valuable, but many times incorporating debriefs into other activities can "trick" students into having fun and participating
@playmeo-group-games2 ай бұрын
Yes Chris, you are right. Although I don't like to think in terms of 'tricking' my groups, what I love about my intentional design is when groups are reflecting without even knowing that they are debriefing their experience. That is, the reflection is incidental to something else they are focused on...
