I don’t usually subscribe, but I have this time. Why? Because you didn’t say a word, till the very end. I don’t understand why some vloggers feel they have to look into the camera and explain everything, all the time. I’m glad you didn’t do that. The landscape is amazing. . Thanks for making this video.

In my large format photography days people used to ask me why I did it. My standard reply was that it was a way to spend long periods of time alone and in silence, without being thought strange. This video captures that rather well.

It's a shame about the first shot not working as i was looking forward to the result, the scene with the fog/mist would have made the ruins look almost like an Aztec pyramid ruin. I too like that period /style of photograhy that you are aiming for.👍

@@RichardSmith-cn9mx thanks for watching Richard. Agree, it’s a shame that one didn’t work out, still don’t know what I’d did wrong to be so underexposed. Great stuff - very enjoyable. I used to drive over from York that way to take my daughter to athletics meets at Wakefield. Every time I'd stop off and tell her the story of the bloodiest battle ever fought on English soil. It became a bit of a running joke and probably put her off history for life!

Watched now all your vids... they are getting better... I guess personally, I dont like Lith printing, hence which is why i dont like the grain... but its all personal preference at the end of the day. Glad you are getting out and enjoying these beautiful spots.

@@stevef2114 I agree, lith printing isn’t to everyone’s taste and there are times when I won’t use it as it just doesn’t work as well as traditional silver gelatin or inkjet. I should also add that not all lith printers do it the same way that I do and some opt for an image with less grain and more clarity. Check out the work of Tim Rudman and Wolfgang Moersch, both master lith printers whose work you may find more to your taste. Thanks for watching the videos, I’m trying to improve every time I make a new one but it’s definitely a steep learning curve.

Just came across this. As a LF shooter myself its good to always see someone else doing the same. The video itself wasnt too bad. I have a digital workflow for printing post development, but ive always wanted to produce my own work from camera to print. However for this, I would say seeing I lack the knowledge, why is this so grainy? The whole point of Large Format is not just single frame, dev and print process thats easier than other formats, but the tonality and detail large format offers. Fomapan 100 really isnt that grainy either. I think you said on the vid you prefer this look, so that cool, but for me i think you are missing something :)
@martinwilsonphoto
@martinwilsonphoto Ай бұрын
@@stevef2114 Hi Steve thanks for watching. When using lith printing techniques and chemicals in the way that I did to make this print you lose a lot of definition, detail and also introduce a lot of grain into the image which is the whole point of printing in this way. I wanted to do that with this print to try and capture the mood of the day where a cleaner traditional silver gelatin print or inkjet print wouldn’t. I shoot a 100 speed film so that I have a negative that fundamentally doesn’t have any grain in it if I want a clean frame or I can also add grain through different printing techniques should I want to in post. Same with large format, the big negative gives me the flexibility to print in lots of different ways and the resolution is there if I want it or I can choose not to as is the case with this print. It’s all horses for courses and I like having as much flexibility as possible. Thanks again.

The Japanese concept of wabi-sabi encourages us to embrace imperfections. Consider the object on its own merits, nothing is truly perfect or permanent. While you may wish to consider the reasons for the “imperfections” in the image, at least in order to control the process, the image in my opinion is still quite beautiful. I enjoy your videos, the relaxed style and the fact that you show the process and the results however imperfect. Thanks.

@@darrelltheriault5793 Hi Darrell, thank you for watching and for commenting. I love the work of Moriyama and the other Provoke era photographers and the wabi-sabi concept in general, so I agree that imperfections should be embraced and I’m always trying to remind myself to loosen up and let go of technical perfection. I do get a little insecure though when I have no idea how the imperfections occurred 😂. One of the reasons I enjoy lith printing so much is that I’m never quite sure what I’m going to get and while I’m sure better printers that me can replicate quite closely their lith printing results, I find it very difficult, which again adds to the uniqueness of the print and can be seen as a positive. Thanks again for watching and I’m glad you liked the video. Thanks
