Am I correct in thinking the “stretch” comes from what is essentially the braid or weave of the strands constricting or relaxing which causes the diameter of the rope to shrink or expand? I had thought prior to this that the ropes “stretched” somewhat similar to how elastic stretches, but if I’m understanding correctly, the actual material of elastic stretches which is different from the “stretch” on ropes such as these. Thanks for the vid and any help in explaining!
@KnotAndRopeSupply4 күн бұрын
There's a number of things that go into the "stretch" of a rope. Yes, construction of the rope is one of those factors, but the elasticity of the fiber itself has more to do with the stretch than all other factors. For example, polyester does not stretch as much as nylon or polypropylene and fibers like kevlar and Dyneema have even less stretch.
@millea84 күн бұрын
@@KnotAndRopeSupplyInteresting! Thanks for the extra detail. Makes sense. Now I’m curious if there is documentation or a resource somewhere that details the estimated percentage of stretch the construction, braid style, twist, material used in the construction, etc. contributes to the overall stretch of the ropes. I wonder if this is just common knowledge across the different industries that use a lot of rope, but for the consumer like myself that’s just looking to get educated, it might be useful…short of just digging around KZbin and the web piecing the info together.

I am looking for a tutorial on eye splice for static line.
@KnotAndRopeSupply13 күн бұрын
Most static ropes have a parallel core and cannot be spliced, they would have to be stitched.
@SailingWindGypsy13 күн бұрын
@KnotAndRopeSupply I have a few old lines that appear to be static with parallel cores, that have eyes in them, so I was curious about a possible technique. It would still be great to do a tutorial on sewing eyes into static line with a parallel core, if you don't have one already 😊

Just found out about you guys. Even tried to reach you via e-mail some days ago. I need a 50 ft long, 2'' nylon rope (preferably black!) with a splice and steel thimble at one end and at the other end just some polyboot would be more than fine. I need it for sled pulling workouts. Can you make this? Let me know. Also check your e-mail and you'll find my messages asking this very same thing.
@KnotAndRopeSupply7 ай бұрын
Hello, thank you for your comment. I looked through days worth of emails and could not find your inquiry. However, we do not have a 2" Nylon in black. We could make this for you in white, but the eye would not have a thimble - we do not carry a 2" thimble and the thimble would be extremely heavy and very large. Feel free to contact us via phone listed on our website to discuss. www.knotandrope.com

I had a rope ladder on a 16 ft sailboat and I could not get back in the boat. I built a folding wooden rigid ladder that worked much better. Don't bet your life a rope ladder for boating unless you try it from the water first.

On a single braided dyneema lock splice, does it make sense stiching?
@KnotAndRopeSupply10 ай бұрын
If you are using a locking brummel splice then, no, not really. It wouldn't hurt to throw in some stitches in the burry part if you wanted. but a proper locking brummel splice locks that rope tail from coming out of the core.

We do not. Due to liability reasons, we do not offer video tutorials on splicing. There are too many safety factors involved, we do not want to be held liable in any way. We do however, offer our splicing services to the public which is done by our in-house splicing professionals.
would you be able to use something like this on biothane coated nylon rope?

Where can we get them? Is there cheap tools that will work for someone who will probably do about 2-3 in their lifetime? Whould have been a great video if that info was conveyed

I'm not exactly sure what these short sections will be used for. I believe they will be used as short tie-offs in an industrial setting. Used once or twice and then recycled. We get a lot of jobs like this, where customers are just looking for an inexpensive rope that will be used for packaging or something else and is not too concerned with color. Others look for a specific type of rope or twine cut into very specific lengths.
@Chief_Linguine Жыл бұрын
What’s the coating for
@KnotAndRopeSupply Жыл бұрын
This particular coating is a dye to change the color of the rope to a specific color per the customer's request. We can use the same process to fire-treat a rope that will be used in a commercial setting that needs to meet specific code requirements. Other coatings can be to help the rope gain more abrasion resistance.

Hello do you know how to sto the fraying
@KnotAndRopeSupply Жыл бұрын
The only way to stop the fraying of a natural fiber rope like cotton, is to whip the ends with a small twine, add a heat shrink tube at the end, or some have had success melting wax or using hot glue. Of course, just leaving tape on the ends will help too. If you create a knot, that too will help and the fraying will not go past the knot. Hope this helps.

Hi, I just made an eye splice on Samson Hyperclimb 24 strand double braid and wanted to lock stitch the eye, but the first 3 inches are so solid and dense that I can’t get a needle through. Any tips? Can I simply stitch it further down the rope where it’s a little softer? Thank you!

get a hammer and encourage the needle through.

Yep, this is pretty common. Moving that stitch down the throat a bit is fine. As long as that stitching goes through the cover/core blend part you are good.

I didn’t understand from the video whether “class 2” splices are better?
@KnotAndRopeSupply3 жыл бұрын
Depending on the type of rope and its construction will determine what kind of splice is needed. A Type II splice is done on ropes that are core dependent. This type of splice is not better or worse than the splice done on a double braid nylon, it's just the procedure is different. I hope this helps clear things up.

nicely demonstrated. I made one after watching your tutorial. For and extra measure , I shrank a length of adhesive heat shrink tubing over the two clamps. It looks great and I think it protects the clamps from absorbing moisture under the clamps who can cause rot and weakness in the rope. Thanks for sharing your video
