On slab, or is there support below? They are not light.

wondering the same. I want to put one in on the main level which is not on slab (theres a basement below) and wondering if support is needed

Probably just go ahead and support it, that is way more weight concentration than the floor was designed for.

I got a question. After starting the fire, how much do you close the side lid. I mean the one you have open so that the smoke gets out? Do you close 50%, 75%, other...? One told me y-day that he closed it all the way and that he only used the side lid for starting up the fire. I guess that the smoke needs to travel another way around, just like a Rocket Mass Heater does. Do you have any idea about this?

not sure what you mean by "side lid" but here's how it works . load the firebox , light and leave the bottom door ajar according to how fast you want it to burn . then close when fully aflame and adjust the air vent on the bottom door. that's it .
