At 78, I only now really see the power of demographics as we go through the various stages of life. Each stage, or demographic, has its own energy and consciousness that everyone in it experiences, and each has stereotypes attached to it, social norms so to speak. You can't escape these boxes.

They lose respect for you.

I find it's plusses and minuses. Using a walking frame turns many people helpful but the for the ladies it's a turnoff.

Maybe its because older people get tired of biting their tongues and are more frank in their opinions, less tolerant and patient about crap.

Sounds somewhat making excuses for selfishness and intolerance. Yes, don't be so quick to give advice, but neither do we have to accept ageism against us. Oh, and as long as you're giving them money (why do they always want money from you?), they'll come around and PRETEND to be interested in you. No money? You become invisible to them, or worse, they look down on you. They may come around like it's their duty, and sit there with their heads in the phone while you try to communicate. My advice? Start over as if you don't need them for anything or have any expectations of how they should treat you. Maybe move to another country, or do something else you always wanted to do. You don't need to compromise yourself for anyone's attention or company.
