not trying to be an arse, but you say the 7d2 isn't as in focus, but we know the 7d2 can focus really well, so surely that's just a poor shot, I mean you could easily get a sharp image with any on these cameras, unless its a quirk with that particular lens, on the 7d2 but then that's a lens issue not a camera one, so I struggle to see how that's a good comparison. Maybe compare 4 good shots from each

@Glenn Bartley How did the skeeters treat you? As someone who is from there and spent my summers in the rainforest and flatlands of Lethem, I know the beauty of the country and its flora and fauna. Waking up in the morning and hearing the beautiful deafening sounds of all the birds and animals is an amazing time of the day, because as it gets hotter later, they usually go quiet. It was a treat watching your video as it brought back many memories. Would love to be able to return there with my cameras, but don’t think that will happen so will have to satisfy myself vicariously. And yes the R5 MK2 is an amazing camera for birding!!

OK, well I think the convenience of being able to set the lens down on the hood and not fall over outweighs any space considerations of the hard hood vs the soft hood.

Would you still recommend the 90d for a beginner bird photographer? It has pretty good image quality right? I thought of buying it and a Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary with it.

Yes but if you can find the R7 at a good price then grab it. I have the 90D and love it. But you can’t escape the R7 has better/newer hardware (sensor) & software. You can adapt your EF/EF-S lenses onto the R7 without any loss in functionality or image quality. I have an R6MKII and I adapt some of my EF lenses onto it.

I currently shoot the 7D ii and I am looking at the 1Dx ii for a second body. I know what you are thinking... In 2024? Yes! I think that would still be an awesome camera for, now $1400, everything that I do. Thanks for your thoughts!

Hi, I’ve stumbled down the rabbit hole of wanting to replace/upgrade my camera. I currently have a (now discontinued) canon 200d which was perfect for my first ever camera. Mainly used for video and some photography. Now I’m really , really REALLY needing some advice … deciding whether to go for canon 90d, canon mark 5d iv, or canon R7 . The R7 looks attractive to me because of : the autofocus capabilities and the newer technology that come with mirrorless , I’m scared because of not knowing how to use it compared to my traditional camera , I’m embarrassed to say I have only ever used auto on my camera but I’m going to learn how to use manual. Also slightly worried about the ‘overheating’ rumours/problems with mirrorless, but apparently shouldn’t be an issue if I don’t intend to do shoot 30min + .. I’m interested in the canon mark iv because it seemed EVERYONE thinks it’s a beast and amazing but then after research I saw it’s better primarily for photography AND it doesn’t have a flip out screen (a feature I currently have and love) and then obviously the 90d …. I think is a really really good option as it’s a step up (several steps) to what I have and probably the most familiar one I’d be used to .. just scared of thinking the R7 is more superior I think is my problem… would really appreciate your thoughts.

@bird-af
@bird-af Жыл бұрын
Hi Glenn! You talked about the importance of the ISO test in the field, not in the studio. I agree with you. But it is also very important to do this with a consumer lens for wildlife. For example, canon 100-400 mark II, Sigma 150-600. You're doing an ISO test with a professional lens for a few thousand dollars. Not everyone can afford such a lens. I'm sure the results will be different with these bodies and cheaper lenses at high ISO. I'm talking about the sharpness and enlightenment of the lens. It definitely won't answer their questions for many and many will get different results than yours. I think for people who came to the equipment (lens) for several thousand dollars, this video will not be watched. They know and can try it in the right place.

I bought a canon EF 400mm f5.6 and was very disappointed because its not as sharp as I expected, so I have sent it back. Now looking at the 100-400mm mkii or a 300mm is usm F4, I think the 100-400mm mkii will be the my choice, thanks for your review very helpful.

Hi Glen I wondered if you ever use a filters on your lens, in very wet areas or are filters a focus no no.. I am thinking on going to a wet/humid area and wondered if its necessary for my Sony 200-600mm? I am not a lover of filters on lenses due to fall in sharpness and focus speed but...............

Thanks for this informative video.I have had my R5 for just a couple of weeks and also came from using a 7D MKII with which I was never wildly impressed with and never really liked shooting over 800 iso. The R5 is stunning by comparison with my Sigma 500 f4 sport, not so much with the extenders but is pretty good with the 1.4x Once I had customised the settings for double BBF I pretty much got the hang of it in a couple of days. I have only ever used Canon dpp since my first dslr the Canon 10D.
