When you record vocals focus on hitting around -10db at the loudest parts so you maintain headroom. Turn down your beat first (using gain not the fader) and you'll be straight. Diamonds ONLY 💎

I see you have the slate ML-1 on hand, were those vocals recorded with it? I make rap myself and I would like to upgrade my home studio and I’m debating if I should go with the Shure Sm7b, or the ML-1. currently I’m using the NT1-A. Was cheapest option for me back in the day :)

The vocal chain for this track was: Slate ML-1>Cranbourne Audio Camden 500 preamp> Klark Teknik La-2a> black Apollo 8p> Into Pro Tools. Bypassed the Apollo preamps and FX. Hope this helps. Preciate you bro. Threshold determines when the clipper starts clipping. I'm usually not touching 0db so I need to lower it (and increase my input) to get the clipper to actually start clipping. Diamonds ONLY 💎

@@armyofgodaog7736 I think you're confused. I'm not talking about clip gain. Which will increase or decrease the gain of your signal. I'm talking about the ability to zoom in out of waveforms. (the little control under the a/z button). That's why you rely on meters for level rather than watching the size of the waveform. Do what works for you tho! Diamonds ONLY 💎
