What's nice is that Felicity does not sing this song as if it were as dirge and her insides were being torn apart. Look at most of the renditions here on KZbin. This is a song about love, about words of love floating through the air like a bird. And people sing it as if it were about somebody dying. I am so tired of singers who think that "serious" music means you have to be in a somber mood. It is not that at all. Not at all. It is what Felicity is expressing. Lovely light and delightful...

many are excited, but of the maybe 70-80 versions you can find on youtube (and I heard them all) this is far from the best. The vibration is most disturbing and she might be a big name, but this doesn't mean that ALL aria's or Lieder she sings are automatically excellent. Every singer has repertoire that fits and also repertoire that is done far better by others. Les chemins de l'amour is not fitting her, at least not here, maybe it was better when she was younger with less vibrato.

Je suis en train de comparer pas mal de versions de ce chant. Pourquoi faut-il que les artistes français(es) ne soient pas fichues de prononcer aussi bien que Felicity Lott, c'est décidément incompréhensible, c'est le cas de le dire!!!!!

Il est dommage que personne n'ait expliqué à Dame Felicity que la liaison "z" entre vers et avaient n'est pas possible puisque en français il n'y a pas de liaison possible entre un sujet nominal et un verbe. Si on remplace le mot "vers" par "amis" on se rend immédiatement compte que la liaison est impossible.

This is really wonderful to relive the same recital that I heard at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in the March of that year. I was totally transfixed with the consummate artistry and presence of the great baritone who has been the singer that I have admired all my life. He has inspired me as a singer more than any other. Hartmut Höll was also the accompanist in the recital, and was also truly great. They took us from the intense, heartfelt Der Genesene an die Hoffnung, to the very beautiful Im Fruhling, where there was hushed silence from the audience. A hair raising and thrilling Der Feuerreiter was performed before the interval. After the interval, he had us laughing at Wolf's comic songs plus, of course, several encores. It has remained the greatest ever recital that I have attended. R.I.P. maestro. You are truly missed.
