i loved this book, and I always have referred to it as my #1 goosebumps book, and i feel like part of that has to do with childhood nostalgia😅when i was growing up, the Goosebumps HorrorLand series was the first series that had gotten me really into goosebumps, besides reading some later OG 62 books at my elementary school library. i have a lot of nostalgia with the book and the episode, but i can understand why it may not be everyone’s cup of tea. i will say, that if you’re not a bigger fan of this book, you may like the Series 2000 book Return to HorrorLand, which is a sequel to this book: it has a lot more of a mystery aspect, which I think you may like more!

Lol! I could DEFINITELY see a Lovecraftian influence on that cover art! What's so wild is those creatures don't even show up in the book at all. But I think the influence could still be there based on the cosmic sci-fi elements in the book that are definitely played up. I know the author is widely read, so I wouldn't be surprised if Cthulhu had an influence on what is going on in the storyline!

I give it points for not having the trope of sibling fighting. That gets old to me. I thought the build up was well done with the spooky campfire stories and the twist. It just had great atmosphere.
@ShaunStevensonBooks
@ShaunStevensonBooks 11 күн бұрын
AGREED. The sibling fighting can get really annoying especially if they're mean to each other. I can't really stand it. Especially in ones like Bad Hare Day. I totally agree about the atmosphere; this is one of those books that had a good sense of dread.

Great review! This definitely isn't one of the best GYGs, but it's one of the more comedic ones so there is some fun to be had there with the goofiness. Into the Jaws of Doom is a more serious, game-oriented one with puzzle solving, but it's also a bit challenging so it doesn't make for a good casual read lol. Please Don't Feed the Vampire and Curse of the Creeping Coffin are both solid ones that are a bit more serious/scary - without being too challenging.

Did you ever read that Roger S. Baum book? I've got two by him... One about the Cowardly Lion that just did not "feel" right to me. I wanted to like it so much more than I actually did. They both have their own unique flavor for sure! I think I love the ways that Thompson expanded the Oz universe by really including so many goings on in other place besides just in Oz. Also some of her characters are just a lot of fun like Kabumpo!
