Facts! I got finned yesterday by a sail cat at the inlet, first time after countless catfish! And yup.. it was a small one w the sharpest bard I have ever felt! I didn't even know he got me until I was trying to move the hook and when he was moving my hand was 😅 hand swelled up and bled like a stuck pig. Then I got nauseous for like 30 seconds about 10 min after. I could feel the venom up on my forearm. This morning my hand is still a bit swollen but nothing bad. I used to take my hand up the back, place that dorsal between my middle and index finger and I was able to take my thumb and ring finger on the pactorals pushing them up giving me leverage and control.. I guess this one has the wolver claws. Btw are those puncture proof gloves!? Maybe I need to find some

If you break those off you cant drive a boat. They guide not deflect. I need to do my jon boat trailer but have been having good luck just driving on. Thanks for the update. My 2018 offshore boat came with grey pvc pipe over aluminum post and it does not scratch the grey gelcoat.
@instaphippsyfishing22 күн бұрын
Good point lol! When I first added these to my trailer 3 years ago, it was because I didn't have any experience launching a boat and they really helped guide me onto the trailer. Now, same as you, I probably don't need them anymore to guide me on. The biggest benefit for me is being able to see the posts when backing the trailer down the boat launch when the boat isn't on it. With the boat on the trailer, I can see, but without the boat, I can't see my trailer because it sits pretty low. So the posts help a lot for that.

@@somematters5713 thank you. Yes, catfish are edible, and the smaller ones are pretty tasty. I don’t know the full anatomy of a catfish but the venom is in the spines of the pectoral and dorsal fins. It’s not in their flesh, so it is safe to consume. Great question!

So are you preferring the kayak to the Marlon sp14?
@instaphippsyfishing2 ай бұрын
I really like them both, but I definitely fish out of the kayak way more often. I ruptured my achilles last year and wasn’t able to use the Marlon at all, because my trolling motor is controlled by a foot pedal. This year I joined a boat tournament series, so I’ve been using the Marlon more. I actually just bought a pedestal seat for it this past weekend. So I’ll be able to fish out of it more comfortably!

Glad you found it helpful! It’s been 3 years, and it is still holding up great. The pool noodles are starting to crumble now, someone recommended using pipe insulation instead. Whatever that PVC conduit I used is, it doesn’t get brittle like normal PVC pipes, it has some flex to it, so even when I bump into them with my boat, they just bend out of the way. Best of luck!

That can be a good solution, especially if you’re practicing catch and release and want to minimize damage to the fish. I know when some people fish for trout they will either use barbless hooks are bend the barbs all the way down.
