I'd love to have one of those !! One thing you could add to the raspberry pi is a camera, so you can automatically take a picture of the label of the disk once it's out :)

I've had one of these forever meaning to do exactly this. I picked it up when my employer was getting rid of it, along with another drive and the duplicator computer and an alignment disk. We used it in the late 90s when we sent out our software on floppy, until we switched to CD, and finally downloads. I don't know if I ever saw the manual for the loader itself, or just for the duplicator software. At some point, I had sniffed the communication between the duplicator software and the loader and worked out the protocol. I would love to see the manual you have. One of the drives I have is a YE Data 2xSDS drive, which needed the Allegro II controller to function properly. It can read or write both sides at the same time, at either 600 or 720 RPM. The other is a regular drive mounted on the carrier plate.

I will put a copy of the manual online when I release part two of the video.

I have been working on a set of software tools to help organize, analyze, and collaborate with other collectors and archivists. It's still a prototype but I am building it out as part of my work at the Large Scale Systems Museum to keep our collection safe for posterity. I would love to chat and get your thoughts and feedback on where we are going with it and see if there's an opportunity to help each other :)

Great idea!!!!!! If libraries can work out the copyright issue id love for every local library to have a service like this for people to use that and optionally could upload to Internet Archive. There has to be an open standard though, no RAW, no IPF. Again just my opinion.

Very informative and great fix! That keyboard looks very interesting though. Is that modified A500 membrane? Could you shed some light on that one? Is it possible to modify A500 keyboard to fit A1200. Tnx!
@GrahamTinkersАй бұрын
Thanks; the keyboard has a thin ridged PCB to replace the membrane, it also fits the A500, you can find them on eBay and at sordan(dot)ie - It is possible to use an A500 keyboard on an A1200 as the physical sizes it the same, however, the method of wiring depends on the revision of the A1200 board, some are easy and others need an adapter board.

@PeranaworthalАй бұрын
Also New Zealand. Just been doing the same with the power supply. First use in 25 years. Printer works after re-inking the ribbon. Just the floppy discs shedding magnetic coating, no cure for that i suppose so fitted the SD card option, came with all the known games pre loaded. Would have been nice to retrieve all my old work though.

Just for the challenge I am rebuilding my US 120vac PS using the original transformer ( yes, I chipped it out of the totally potted chunk!) but instead of duplicating it 100%, I am adding an SCR crow bar between the fuse and input to the linear voltage regulator. Then a 5.3 zener diode on the output of the regulator to protect from over voltage, it the output gets over 5.3vdc the zener will trigger the SCR and blow the fuse!

What or how did it you put it back together with that plastic piece you pried on or cut? Is it ok to reuse the plastic clip that was cut during disassembly? I have to take mine apart to fix the rotary encoder (push button center) and was wondering if it was needed or not.

I recently picked up a BBC Micro and although it powers on, nothing happens, I don't even get the beep sound, I just get a blank screen. I'm not sure if you have an idea what could be wrong? , some say it might be the power supply.
@GrahamTinkers Жыл бұрын
Hi, check the keyboard cable, if the keyboard is not connected or the cable is faulty the Beeb will not boot, you will get a black screen with a flashing cursor. The PSU's are well built, but they have RIFA capacitors which need to be replaced as they will short and let out the magic smoke.

So when i flash my gotek with flash floppy 3.39 it shows the version on the display screen of gotek but when i load a .img file or .out file it just says insert system disk. What filename(s) and extensions do you need for it to just load the system disk. Ive followed the forums and documentation but still not working. Any help would be great!
@GrahamTinkers Жыл бұрын
Hi, Are you using the OLED Display? If so, can you see the file names displayed? I download the office disk images from the Roland website, they are .img files. The issue could be related to the config file for FlashFloppy or it could be with the USB drive, I tried a generic flash drive and it worked with ther Gotek but would not load the disks on the Roland, I used a old 32GB Sandisk drive and that worked fine.

Well, I tried it and I screwed up, I guess. I got the new screen in place, pushed the power button, and saw the screen light up with the word Thinkpad (beginning to boot). I pushed and held the power button to turn it off, unplugged it again, (no battery inserted), put the trim on, and then......NO POWER. It will not boot up. No light from the screen whatsoever. I removed the trim again, flipped the panel over, separated the connector, reattached, and nada. nothing. How unbelievably frustrating. What do I do now?
@GrahamTinkers Жыл бұрын
If the laptop powered on after you replaced the screen then is sounds like you did this correctly. Try doing a hard power reset, discontent the power cord and battery, then hold the power button for 30 seconds. I had this issue with an L14 last week, totally dead, power button did nothing; there is a reset hold on the bottom of the L14 to disconnect the internal battery, this resolved the issue.

Thank you for this tutorial. I've not tried following your instructions yet. The problem I had was that once I'd fitted and enabled Turbo MMC I couldn't access the FDD. It was connected as normal to the port on the underside of the Master, but once Turbo MMC had been fitted/enabled the FDD no longer functioned. So, how do you get the FDD to work once Turbo MMC is fitted, is my question? When I do the *ROMS command, this is what shows on my sccreen:- ROM F TERMINAL 01 ROM E VIEW 04 ROM D Acorn ADFS 50 ROM C BASIC 04 ROM B Edit 01 ROM A ViewSheet 02 ROM 9 DFS 79 ROM 8 Master MMFS Turbo 7B ROM 7 ? ROM 6 ? ROM 5 ? ROM 4 ? ROM 3 ? ROM 2 ? ROM 1 ? ROM 0 ?
@GrahamTinkers Жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew, you can only have one filing system active at a time, on the Master you can press and hold Ctrl + D and hit Break, this will change to the DFS ROM, or you can enter *UNPLUG 8, which will disable the MMFS ROM. To transfer files from MMFS to Floppy or vice versa, you should find a ROM Image COP114 on one of the virtual disks (disk 300 maybe) and load it into Sideways RAM.

Hi Grahan, thanks for your video, I have the same unit with the same problem. But my knowledge of circuits is nil. I could use the SSM2019 BNZ as a replacement or the THAT 1510 is better, I found them on mouser and I would like to be able to repair it. Thanks again and good material, greetings
@GrahamTinkers Жыл бұрын
Hi Daniel, glad you liked the video and found it helpful. I am not an audio person, so I cannot say if the SSM2019 it better than the THAT 1510/1512 or vice versa, both chips have there own characteristics that people like or dislike. If the chips are not expensive, then get both and see which you prefer, and use the other to tinker with and create your own preamp circuit.
