Still use sound modules. I play in a 80-90:s electronic post punk/synthpop band (since we have 3-7 synths on stage and 3 synth players hardware synths is pretty much the thing). We do have one song which is just piano based and bringing an accoustic piano or a stage piano is not an option on the small stages we play. Will this be an okay option or is it too digital sounding? We use a Arturia Polybrute, Sequental take 5, sometimes a Yamaha cs-5, allways tape loops and a tablet for drums. Been thinking of buying one of these several times

You can take out the "harp" to further reduce the weight of the piano shell. You'll need to remove the strings as well as back out all of the "pins" that the strings are tightened on. In addition to that, there are a series of screws that also hold the harp onto the back of the piano case. Once all of those fasteners are removed, the harp will slide out of the shell. This will greatly reduce the overall weight of the shell and make it much easier to move around.

Great video. Are you pushing the sound output to external speakers or relying on the piano shell amplifying the sound from the keyboard? I’m not familiar with this keyboard as I have an old Yamaha PSR which has quite a weak sound. Mine is fine for home use but would be lost in a hall and I usually DI to an MAudio Interface for multitracking so I can amplify the piano to get a sound balance with guitar and any other instruments. I’d be interested to hear how you project the music in the church hall. Thanks from across the pond. Greetings from UK and many thanks for sharing your project in such great detail.

So I am ultimately outputting the sound into the house monitoring system via a audio snake on stage. That keyboard is strictly a controller (no sound) my sound comes from my computer (MainStage) and the sound module that I was showing. Mostly MainStage as the sound module is meant to be a backup sound source in the event that my computer were to ever crash during a set.

I was also looking for a cheap backup Midi module. The Emu bank sounds good, but I think the old Alesis Nanosynth is a better allround module, with bigger samples and more effects.

I’m still using my iPhone XR as a sound module for my MIDI keyboard. What’s great about this solution is the portability, it’s battery powered (you can simply add a power bank for longer use), and most important - the ability to save my songs or melodies as MIDI via GarageBand iOS. Having my melodies that I created on the go saved as MIDI is great because when I get back home, I can send this MIDI (via iRig Midi 2) out to ANY synthesizer OR real piano that has MIDI IN. I then use a Zoom H4N Pro to record the audio coming from that instrument. I love this setup.

Smart move? I would not trust a computer alone. Better sound than Midiplus? And you could use USB only to make it work right? Thank. edited: Never mind, i got my answer from your follow up video. Strange that the USB port cant receive midi in 2023. Thanks again.

@@OlegAryutkin there is a market for module that doesn’t require a $2k laptop
@OlegAryutkin Жыл бұрын
@@romeou4965 I'm guessing there isn't anymore. MIDI gear is considered professional and professionals don't have a problem spending money on their tools. for amateurs there are home keyboard, digital pianos, and entry level synths. Anyway, I've used sound modules in the past, the roland JV, XV, Fantom series.. starting about 2010-2015, there was just no way they could keep up with even a modest laptop.

When you play this keyboard, it feels like it's a live synth, not a midi keyboard. I bought an Arturium Mk 3 but I can't play it like you because there is always a slight delay between the keystroke and the actual sound and it kills live music. I tried to change the buffer s i z e. it reduces latency, but it's still big enough to prevent me from playing live music like a live synth. Can you give me some advice?
@quippmedia8777 Жыл бұрын
Hey - thanks for watching. Not sure what kind of computer you're on how fast it is or the programs you use but I'll at least tell you what I would try. My current computer (mac) has 16g of RAM. I do run my sounds through Mainstage but I have noticed its a lot more processor heavy when Third Party synth instruments are used with it. While I am not experiencing an issue with latency you might try using stand alone instruments (software synth that will just serve as a soundbank without something like mainstage or Logic hosting it) and only running that software and quitting all other programs to see if it does any better. I also use a program that helps me see how to computer is performing while running my programs so I can know whether or not it's an issue of the computer trying to keep up. If you have already reduced buffer as low as you can, I'd start considering the specs on the computer - again trying to give any input I could but I just don't know what you're actually using in your rig?

Can you use this with sustain pedal?
@quippmedia8777 Жыл бұрын
Yes - but understand that it must be connect to your midi controller with the 5pin midi cable. Once connected it then receives the sustain info from the sustain pedal that’s connected to your keyboard/controller.

Im vintage player and vintage to. I still have all my old expanders K1r, K5m Proteus 1-2 , Fs1r. Last one i bought and diserving expander name was Blofeld. Currently there are only Roland Integra , and Keytron expander available with all 16 midi channel and big sound library. Korg has kill last good stage synth the Kronos. Now combining sound on both world , computer and older hardware. But its a pity not having a good hardware sampler with a good software to build sounds or import library for lazy musicians. Most Brands dont make instruments for musician anymore, but just little tools for music programmers who have poor knowledge of what music really is. AI is coming soon and will replace all current daw crapp with better AI crapp soon. Maybe a chance for real musician.

usb port is both a connection and a power supply for a midi keyboard? otherwise a separate power supply is required for midi keyboard?
@quippmedia8777 Жыл бұрын
Hey - Glad you asked but No - that's not how it works for this device. The USB port is only for power to the "piano box pro". So yes you will need power for your midi keyboard and remember that the connectivity from the midi keyboard to the piano box is the old school 5pin midi cable. Again glad you asked as that USB port on the piano box pro is misleading - it is only to supply power to the unit and nothing else.

truthfully in comparison to sampled bass from synths in mainstage, they aren't "amazing" but decent for the purpose I had in mind of just an extra layer of sound and something that was hardware based.
