Zen - a state of calm attentiveness, also used to describe something calm or imperturbable. Those images are most decidedly NOT zen. However, the colors are nice.

Man Mo Temple has a long-standing history, as it was established in 1847 and continues to be a center of worship and cultural significance for locals and visitors alike. The temple is dedicated to two principal deities: Man, the God of Literature, revered by students and scholars aiming for success in their academic pursuits; and Mo, the God of War, honored by those seeking strength and bravery. Together, they represent the harmonious balance of intellect and courage, values that are deeply cherished in Chinese culture. As we explore the temple, take a moment to admire the beautifully decorated protective screens. These intricate designs serve a dual purpose: they are not only visually captivating but also believed to ward off evil spirits, ensuring that the temple remains a haven of peace and spirituality. You’ll notice the statues of the Ten Gods of Hell, positioned to remind worshippers of the importance of justice and morality in life. Each figure comes with its symbolic meaning, serving as a profound reflection on the repercussions of one's actions, guiding believers toward righteousness. Next, let’s observe the impressive divine chairs made of elaborately carved teak wood adorned with gold leaf. These ceremonial chairs are used during festive parades to carry the statues of the gods, allowing them to bless the local community. It is a sight to behold when locals celebrate the temple’s festivals, with vibrant decorations and joyous processions. If you look above, you will see the bell-shaped joss stick coils suspended from the temple's rafters, releasing a fragrant smoke that dances around us. As you walk past the gold incense urns, take a moment to appreciate the spiritual significance of incense in Chinese culture-serving as a medium to communicate with the deities, and a method of cleansing the space of negative energies. As we journey deeper into the temple, keep an eye out for the sacred bronze deer, often seen as symbols of peace and prosperity. These revered figures reflect the nurturing aspect of nature and our responsibility to live in harmony with our surroundings. Among the various deities honored here is Shing Wong, the city god who protects the neighborhood and its inhabitants. His presence is very much felt, and many locals come to pay their respects, believing that he plays a vital role in their daily lives. We cannot forget about Pao Kung, the god of justice, known for overseeing fairness and righteousness. He continues to be an important figure, with many individuals praying to him to seek justice in matters both personal and communal. Now, right next to Man Mo Temple, we find the smaller Lit Shing Temple. This adjacent temple offers a different yet complementary experience. As you enter this space, you may notice the urns dedicated to ancestors-a vital part of ancestral worship in Chinese tradition. Here, families pay their respects to their forebears, ensuring that their legacies are honored and remembered. The urns symbolize a direct connection to heritage, reminding us of the values and teachings that have been passed down through generations. With its rich aroma of incense, decorative artistry, and the serene presence of the divine, Man Mo Temple and the Lit Shing Temple together provide a glimpse into the vibrant tapestry of Hong Kong's spiritual and cultural landscape

How did you rate your time / experience in Mongolia and climbing Mt Khuiten, compared to all your other travels and climbs round the world? I’m thinking of doing a similar trip, but I’m torn between it and other mountaineering trips, so I’d be interested to know what you thought of the experience.
@MountainsOfTravel28 күн бұрын
I loved it - the different cultures and experience. But I would say that this should be done after you have climbed in other areas first
@AdrianHunt65228 күн бұрын
@@MountainsOfTravel Why do you say that / what’s your reason for thinking that? Is it because you thought the climbing / mountaineering itself wasn’t that good, and it was the cultural experience, etc that actually made the trip? Apologies for all the questions!
