Hello, thank you for the video. I used a 64GB, and it didn't work, as Windows 10 doesn't allow me to format the 64GB to SD card to fat32, only to exfat. Is there anyway to solve this issue, or do I need to get a separate 32GB SD card? thanks.

Yes, you might find that Windows can't format a card to FAT32 at that size and if it's not FAT32 it won't work in the Neos unfortunately.

If it’s like a Wyze v2 or V3 , they are easily converted to a USB webcam. I repurposed 4 of my Wyze V2 to webcams for 3 of my 3d printers and most importantly, for my Xtool D1 Laser Cutter, engraver.

I'm not sure if Neos implemented the USB webcam functionality in their version of the firmware and sadly I can't go back and check as all mine are now reflashed. But there was definitely lots that Wyze did/do better than Neos did, it felt like they just signed up a load of people to charge them and then did nothing further.

Hey Brett, So i have got to the point where i can view the access point. I have an android so I was expecting it to go through to the installation page but that didn't pop up. How do I access this in another way.

Heya! I'd try just opening a browser when connected to the Access Point and then opening 192.168.x.x where the X's are your cameras IP. Alternatively, give the new installer a go, it's even easier!

Hi, thank you so much for the Neos recovery instructions. Very clear and easy to follow. My Neos is now fully viewable via the ip address and the thingino interface. I have tried all sorts of port forwarding on my router to gain access externally via my usual hostname but without any success. I have also tried quite a few apps e.g. ftycam pro but again no success. If you can advise me or do another great video to show how to access the Cam externally that would truly be the icing on the cake. Many thanks again for all the time and effort you put into your video.

Thank you for watching! I must admit I've not tried accessing the camera itself externally as I have it feed in to Home Assistant and then use that to remote access the feed. However, I will try and look at remote access and see if just forwarding the http port works for me.

Hi, the address to go to is the IP address of the camera, it'll likely be 192.168.x.x depending on your network

Have managed to get the cameras to work with IPCams on my iPhone. But only at home using WiFi. Outside, using my phone mobile data the feeds don’t load. Keep getting Error messages. So not much point really.

Hi, the feed on its own won't work outside your house. You'd need to put it in to an NVR or something like Home Assistant to remotely access the camera.

Fabulous that you posted this video - apparently formatting the SD card doesn't delete all the files on it - which I would have guessed would be the case. NO risk of inadvertently doing this when formatting?

Will this allow me to remotely view video clips as before or do all recordings get saved to the sd card? If so, does the sd card get over written when its full?

Hi, that's right it all gets written to the SD card and it will overwrite when full if you set it to do that. You can, however, now pull the stream in to another system such as NVR or Frigate or similar to allow remote viewing.

Hi Brett! I pushed a brand new installer a few days ago that is faster, more reliable, and makes a backup of the factory firmware. Make sure viewers know to follow the README in the installer repo as it will always match the installer! @@BrettCook NEOS users got pretty lucky as most of our devs are in North America and had never heard of the brand... but we had support for the Wyze version already so it was just a few tweaks to documentation to get it covered. The NEOS incident is a great example illustrating how reliance on a closed source ecosystem can leave you stranded!

Cannot get the wz_mini directory from wyze-cam-2 but it's there for wyze-cam-3 ? When unzipped eveything is there except wz-mini directory, can I use the one from wyze-cam-3. Anybody else had this problem?

Is there an app that can be used to remotely monitor the cameras after the firmware hack or does it just allow the camera to record to the SD card?

Not on its own, this hack just lets you get an rtsp / Onvif feed and record to SD card. You can, however take the feed and put it in to something like Home Assistant, Frigate or an NVR to allow remote monitoring and remote storage too, you can then use the app for those systems to remote view.

Yes, you can try again. Is it that you can't connect to the cameras hot spot to set it up on your own WiFi or the camera can't connect to your own WiFi?

Hi, you can't on its own, you'd need to use something like an NVR or Home Assistant and then you can use their app as they can pull in the feed. Hope this helps.

Great video Brett, I completed my 5 cameras from an earlier posted video, but you have explained it really well, I used a mac / iOS and had to manually search the access page for the cameras by searching thingino.local Thanks for highlighting the recording method and the access protocol….is this similar with a mac do you know? Can you view access multiple cameras at the same time similar to the Neos app? There are a lot of us I believe who would be grateful if you could show how to set up the camera(s) to be accessed remotely the via Home Assistant Thanks again 😊👍

If you go in to the day/night settings you can set the light levels which trigger the infra red view :)

I think you have to have an email server to send the email to you, probably only useful if you run your own SMTP server.

Are there any security implications when using Wyse firmware? From what I have read, they have had a few issues with security over the years. I'm guessing that was only if using their app/service.

So the good news is that you won't be using the Wyze firmware, you'll be using Thingino. So you won't have any issues relating to Wyze, but obviously you may have issues relating to Thingino but it's an open project so should be better.

Brett, mate, help...... I have 9 Neos Smartcams !! I have followed your video to the letter ..... When attempting I get: 1. Camera Not flashing Blue at ALL Or 2. Have it go around in the Blue / Orange flashing all night and never finish the install update. I have also tried a 30 second reset on the cameras before attempting. I've tried 4 of my cameras and not got any to finish updating. I am Formatting and re coping files before each try. I have a 4GB SD card. I am holding down button before power goes on. It goes Blue / then starts (or not) / The camera SHOUTS, "INITIALISING FIRST BOOT / then never finishes .......... I followed your link to get the files.

I've not come across this before, I believe 4GB card should be enough but you might want to try with larger as maybe it's running out of space? Otherwise it might be an idea to ask in the project discord group?

I have the same problem, followed your procedures to the letter, it did a few clicks, said first boot, then the orange and blue light never stopped flashing after half an hour. I think mine is destined to be a paper weight. Edit: I tried everything from scratch and this time the light went off in a few minutes and I looked in my phone there it is, the wifi, I do not know what went on the first time, but his time it worked. Thanks !!!

Hi, i followed the process, the light didn't turn blue, so inrelesead the reset button. No it plugged camera back on, there is no light and wont respond.

Hi, you have to have the reset button pushed in before the power is turned on. The button is really hard to press, sometimes it's not actually pressed when you think it is.

Ok I am planning to use my neos with an sd card. New sd card formatted and inserted and have checked and it is recording video well. The problem I have is that sound is not being recorded. Dont think its the sd card as I copied a another video file on it and there is sound so it must be the camera. As there is no app anymore does anyone know how to get sound on the recording. I have even tried to reinitialise the camera but this has not fixed it. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Sound worked on my ones, but maybe try choosing the opposite format for recording than you've chosen, so try MP4 if you have MOV selected or vice versa?

I'd try and run the process again and see if that fixes it. If you didn't hold the reset button down then it won't have done anything to the camera yet.

No, this is a complexly new firmware and operating system. You can put the Wyze cameras on this also.

Thanks! You will be able view them when on your local network through the mobile website, you'd have to either set it up with your router or via an app like Home Assistant if you wanted to do it live outside of your house. If you record to SD card you can view it after the fact. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the video Brett. Before I have a try with it, do you know if the leak sensors & hub are shown anywhere in the Thingino GUI, or is it all related to the camera functions? I've lost leak monitoring now that the Neos app is dead and would dearly like to re-use the leak sensors as they are pretty good.
