Oh that's a shame. Did you still manage to get out and about and do things though? Captain Wes was great wasn't he, we got to meet him and have a photo with him in Haugesund :)

A pity about the weather, I live in Haugesund, and had you arrived around mid of may or so you would have had wonderful sunny weather, and well over 20C - but June has been a proper disapointment so far.

Oh what a lovely town you live in, we did want to explore more. We thought the weather was quite nice actually, we're used to a lot worse in the UK 😅 at least it was dry, we got soaked in Stavanger

@@CtheCwithC Oh well, at least there wasn't any rain, that's always a plus, hehe. I'm glad you liked the town though. It's been very interesting as a local to watch the transformation of Haugesund over the past 3-4 years, there's been a lot more effort put into restoring the centre of town, it's historic buildings etc, ever since the cruiseships started docking here. :)

I can imagine a lot has changed with all the tourism. Would you say for the better, or did you prefer your peaceful town before? How do the locals feel with the influx of tourists with the cruise ships? Our ship especially was really big, over 5000 passengers

@@CtheCwithC In our case, I'd say it's been for the better. Haugesund is about 50 000 people, so It's probably not as much of a burden on us as it might be on some of the towns and villages of maybe around 500-1000 people where cruise ships dock. - But the thing with Haugesund is that especially the town centre used to have quite a few issues with abandoned storefronts, decaying buildings. And over all; there wasn't really all that much pride in the town, most people just shopped in the malls in the suburbs, lived in the suburbs, and the historic core was more or less forgotten and ignored.

But with the cruise tourism in recent years It's been a sort of wake up call for Haugesund, we can't just be a cruise destination while the town looks decayed, lifeless, has nothing to really offer etc. Which it largely was prior to 2019. So there's a renewed focus on that, restoring historic buildings, more cafes, more restaurants. There's been more focus on the identity of the town, marketing based on the town's strengths etc.

We are curious about Yacht Club. MSC seem to have mostly positive feedback on this brand concept of theirs. So its interesting to gain your experience of it. Really nice looking accommodation. And the private open deck space in Yacht Club looked a chilled place to hang out.
