I wish someone would write a Kenny Baker songbook. I would buy it in a heartbeat.

I enjoy listening to him playing a hymn like Pass Me not , maybe more than other famous fiddlers - there's something peaceful and economical about his playing

Hello from Alberta ! Yes I remember Don's TV show on the CBC up here, Don could certainly handle the fiddle.

Kenny Baker and Joe Stuart used to come in Bobby Greene’s Dusty Roads tavern between or after Opry sets and sit in with the regulars. Just a college boy, I got to play bass with them and with Roland White many times back in the early’70’s.

You could tell he was struggling with his voice at this point. But he was tearing it up on that flat top!

oh man. Nice recording Of Kenny. I was privileged to be able to see him live a few times with Monroe and he would often come to the camp grounds and parking lots and jam with the fans. Kenny was one of those guys who just loved to play.

I took my Mom to see Tony Rice play at the Birchmere and she embarrassed me so bad downstairs at the record table when she scolded him for smoking...

@@columbia1930 - I heard a story about Tony and Wyatt had a gig with Doc. They had a binge rehearsal about 30 minutes before showtime. The Rice Brothers fogged the small room out the piont that Doc walked out.

Tony had a condition called muscle tension dysphoria. That's what caused him to lose his voice. Granted, smoking didn't help, but it was not the main cause.

Bill Monroe was NOT an old coot . He was the most respected man in the world when the subject " bluegrass music" was brought up. I had the HONOR to shake his hand at Bean blossom in 1971 when I came back from Vietnam. He belongs on Mount Rushmore? R. I.P. Mister Monroe - What a man? They don't make men like him anymore . Nuff said 🙏🇺🇲

Kenny Baker is Bluegrass fiddle. The rudiments, the tone, the time, the phrasing, the shuffle is the standard Kenny Baker set.

My father and I went to a bluegrass festival in Virginia Beach in 1987, where Bill Monroe headed the lineup of bluegrass stars appearing there. We followed him from the stage to his bus and he had two armed guards escort him from the stage to his bus and his mandolin was in a protective case. We got his autograph and spoke with him. What a wonderful memory of the father of bluegrass and my own father who passed away the following year.
