How do you know when to start reeling in a bunch of line when they're swimming with it? I'm used to just letting the rod load up before picking it up, but I've noticed there's been some subtle bites recently where the rod just bobs like yours did. I tried reeling down a bunch for some of those bites and I lose most of them, but wondering if I'm doing it too early. Any trick to it?

@@MrJustin0919 this is a good question. I will do my best to explain it for you and in my next video I will do a visual example to better help you understand. There’s various factors that I take into it. I use sinker slides for my weight that provide little resistance to the fish. The rod tip action you’re seeing is actually the line pulling through the sinker slide when the fish has the bait and it’s going to bend the rod tip the same amount every time. What you want to look for is the rod tip going down a little more than normal on those soft bites. The big key is reeling too early. I’ll give it a 8-10 second rule if there’s continued movement in the rod tip on a soft bite such as in my video. A visual of the line also helps with noting what direction the fish is moving. If it’s going left or right the fish should have the bait in its mouth. Straight away is the best take down because 90% of the time with circle hooks the rod and hook will do the work. With the fish running towards you is a little more difficult because your weight is still out where you casted it and it’s a matter of reeling up and catching up to them. Count a few seconds and reel down. If it’s missed then you need to downsize baits to a smaller piece. Those fish aren’t fully taking bigger baits at times. If you hook up then you know you can start developing a pattern. You can never perfect a soft bite hook up ratio. You just watch and do the small things that increase your hook up ratio.

When you learn how to fish with strength by volume it’s easy. Essentially every catfish angler in VA, NC and SC fish exactly as I do. I rarely ever get tangled. I have no issues with it. If all I gad to fish with was 4 rods I’d be pissed

My grandpa always would say, you know what a third fishing pole is for? Someone who can't fish with one.... this video is exactly that...... and to catch slimy desease carrier's..
@infamouscatfishing8 ай бұрын
First off it’s spelled Disease. Secondly I can fish with 1 or 100. Everyone that’s reputable tournament anglers in NC,SC and VA fish exactly as I do. We were bought up and taught like this by our grandpas. Strength by volume. You clearly have no education on “disease carriers” as you call it. A very large population of people eat catfish from these waters daily and haven’t been placed 6ft under pushing daisies for eating contracting a sickness. This is the south.

Hey buddy quick question why use a lip grip i fish for Pike here in Northern Ireland they will cut you up if your not careful handling them but we dont really use boga grips or lip grips here because they damage the fish so much.
@infamouscatfishing9 ай бұрын
I only use them on blues. They like to bite down and twist and will rip your hands up. The bigger blues not so much. Anything over 30lbs I dont use fish grips on because the weight of the fish put alot of pressure on the jaw. I try to support the bigger by the belly as well
@DavidScobie9 ай бұрын
@@infamouscatfishing awe cool that answers that up here in Europe we have a species of catfish called a wels catfish I've only had them to mid 60lbs but in places like the river Po in Italy and Ebro in Spain they grow over 200lbs we use gloves to chin them out because their teeth are like the world's most aggressive sandpaper it dosent so much cut you it more rubs the skin off you so a good set of gloves are the way to go.
@infamouscatfishing9 ай бұрын
I’m very familiar with the Wels! That’s a bucket list fish for many anglers here in the states including myself! Our record blue here is 127 in my particular state but that holds no weight to a Wels!

In NC we have no rod limits so we grew up fishing with multiple rods and learnt how to cast and fight fish without very many tangles. I can count on one hand how many times I’ve been tangled into another line in the last 5 yrs.
