I had to find this place and look at the pics on google street view. Incredible how different the before and after views are. There's a YT channel called TheGeoModels that has a video explaining the origin of these specific mud/debris flows showing satellite views. In another, he walks up the path of it to where it began at near 4200 ft. I never thought anything like this was possible in a place like this. It's like something from a volcano.

We live off Cane Creek not too far from there, the damage was so insane, it still brings sadness, all the lives, homes, business, animals, people, I'm amazed by the resiliency of mountain folk, instantly out rebuilding. Im still shocked such a thing even happened here, completely unprecedented and tragic in every way.

I hope everyone actually learns from this tragedy. Like for instance. No housing of any kind should ever be built in a flood zone. And with climate change the flood zones are going to expand yearly. The storms will be massive. An EF5 tornadoe more and more common.

I have tried writing letters to our North Carolina senator Tom Tillis and our congresswoman Virginia Fox and all I get is a letter of what is going on that you would give to TV or the media. We are citizens of North Carolina and we should have our Congress and senators give us special responses and I believe if we all get together and vote them out of office when they come up. And put someone in because we are going to need help for many years for this area and if we don't have the proper people in to get it we won't get it and I'm talking about Republicans we've got to get them on board.

I live on Chestnut Hill, east of Garren creek fire station. I had seen what happened on old fort rd between the fire station and chestnut hill church. It is devastating because they are my church family and neighbors. I had heard reports about flat creek and Garren creek but not seen it. Thank you for showing this. It is every bit as bad and more that people I know down there described. My workman lives on Johnny Marlowe and escaped with his mom and sister with their very lives. I have been wondering if Lumber John is ok (guy with portable sawmill). So many others I know affected one way or another. Absolutely surreal and unimaginable. The first two weeks after, I cried some every day. A very real trauma to the whole community.

@Agent.992 ай бұрын
@@jmvoltrino No way! It’s you, Lumber John??? The name didn’t quite match up with what I had. But you know, KZbin and all. Soooo glad you are ok! That really makes me smile! I know your property is pretty low, on the low side of the road, so have thought of you!!! Andy passed 2 years ago this month. Miss him still! Where does the time go? His son works for me now. It was his son, Andy’s wife/sons mother, and sister/Andy’s daughter that escaped. Saw their dog washed away with their house and trailer. They escaped so fast, the mom even had to leave all her medical equipment behind and she ended up at Mission Hosp. Then the dog was found stranded on an island in the middle of the creek turned river the next day. A bright spot in an otherwise unimaginable event. On a positive note, I’m sure all that lumber you milled for us that we replanked the covered bridge with helped give it the strength it needed to endure! I’m sure you’ve seen it. It’s a bit crooked now, but standing still! I’ve been so heavy hearted this past week since it was the services for 3 ladies I knew from Chestnut Hill church and their husbands. Next week is services for family members of people I know. So really, I appreciate the reply, it did make me happy to hear you are ok!

It doesn't look good there. Flat creek road is closed but old fort road is open with damage. Your property is probably still there guessing by the shape of the valley. I'm in candler and if I get a chance I'll try to see if I can learn anything more about your area.

Your neighborhood should be fine, I can try to take a drive up there tomorrow. There were two major debris flows, one following flat creek and one following the creek just east of Davey Crockett rd. That one swept through Tyler’s diesel shop. But as long as you weren’t in the river valleys it’s likely okay.

@jmvoltrino3 жыл бұрын
@@jordanstanley4623 I'm not sure about the ABS randomly kicking in, but if that vacuum connection is loose at the tandem pump you'll likely have vacuum leaks. My JB weld attempt with the pump still on the car eventually failed. Fortunately I had to remove the pump when doing a camshaft swap. With the pump off the car you have much better access to properly goop on the JB weld and get a strong weld.

could that wiggle of the vacum fail brake booster to brake(work correctly)?
@jmvoltrino4 жыл бұрын
Yes. If you have a vacuum leak it will severely degrade the performance of the brake booster, depending on the severity of the vacuum leak. Sometimes the leak is minor and it’s able to “store” enough vacuum in the vacuum reservoir in between brake applications, so the booster will only fail to work sometimes.

@@jmvoltrino i was cleaning out my intake manifold, and on reinstallation of the manifold and egr cooler, i accidentally broke the arm of the intake manifold vacuum actuator. it’s located on the passenger side of the engine, shaped like a little circular plunger with an arm (pointing towards the front of the car) going to a pivoting bracket on the intake manifold. it’s just below your “doggie collar fix” and is made of plastic. when i reinstalled the intake system, i took it for a drive and under high boost, high load, up until VGT actuation i get a very loud squeal and a “flat spot” in my power curve. i have no clue what creates this, and i’m not sure if that broken arm on that actuator could create that noise. i have a new one on the way but it’s not gonna be here for a week or so and i’m kind of scared to drive my car because this noise did not happen before and i don’t want to damage anything further. any thoughts? i thought it could be that intake manifold vacuum actuator arm being broken but i don’t know what to do anymore. thanks in advance

Great video! I have a 04 BEW 1.9 Jetta wagon and I’ve replaced the turbo actuator along with some lines and still have same issue. I know my nipple is loose so maybe I’ll give that jb weld a go. I also did the doggie collar as well. I even used 6 inch heat shrink to go over my intake hoses because those connection style wears and makes them leak air too.
@jmvoltrino4 жыл бұрын
I ended up having to goop on the jb weld with the tandem pump off the car (was doing a camshaft change so it worked out nicely). It was too hard to get a god strong seal on the bottom of the footing with on the car.
