For years I thought this song was about a virgin who got cold feet on her wedding night and then changed her mind. 😂

Growing up as a kid in the '60s and '70s, I only knew of Freda through her song Band of Gold. I had always thought she was pretty, but this video proved to me that PRETTY 'doesn't even begin to come close"!!! In this performance she has such an expressive face...and eyes you could get forever lost in.. and not even care!!! If I was somehow given the chance to design myself a life partner I'd simply supply a copy of this performance and say "you can't do any better than this"!!! Seriously though, everything I've read about Ms Payne indicates that she is just as beautiful a person inside too...and the years have been VERY KIND to her as well...she"s still a *looker"!!!

This was the first song that got me emotional when I heard it on the radio at age 14 in 1970 when our family went on a holiday from Winnipeg, Manitoba to Vancouver, B.C. In 1976, I won $50.00 on "Name that Tune" on the radio station in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The DJ played a few seconds of the song and were 3 others ahead of me, but they got it wrong! When my turn came, the DJ said "You really know your songs!" I knew this song!

“Deeper and Deeper’ was / is such an overlooked hit and really should have been a much bigger record than it was. ‘Bring the Boys Home” was quite a controversial records in many parts of the U.S. and some stations simply didn’t play it. And I believe I read that Freda was involved in a law suit with her record company….Also was hoping to hear about why “Invictus” Records folded so suddenly and where those artists landed after the closing.
