The woods behind you such a very Important Battke took place . In which it delay Pieper's SS Battle Group an entire day ,along with the cost of many paratroopers killed. PFC.BILLY QUEEN WAS KIA in this Action and would lay in his foxhole till the following 1945 I think in March before his body was recovered.. Not much is mentioned of him . He was with the 4 men who were with the Forward Observers Artillery unit in town, when the German Paratroopers came in they went out in their jeep and join the Recon unit on the wooded hill ...don't forget about the CooCoo Clock in the Gaushaus . Best Regards..

Hello, nice of you to comment on our video. You are absolutely correct. Billy Queen, of the 371st FAB Observation Post, was present and was killed. His story is well known and certainly not forgotten. Veteran Peter Gacki has written me extensively about this. His body was indeed not found until 1945 after the liberation of Lanzerath. Of course the story of the cuckoo clock in Café Scholzen, Bouck's birthday, has also not been forgotten. Bouck wrote me about this. As a local historian we let Marcel tell the story. He was also in contact with both veterans. A small correction: The heroic resistance of Bouck and his men, including the 4 of 371st FAB, did NOT slow down Peiper's advance. In fact, the German paratroopers caused Peiper's delay because they chose to rest and take care of themselves after the battle against the American soldiers was over. One can say that these American soldiers slowed down the German advance in this sector by fighting so intensively. Only after the battle in Lanzerath was over, Peiper was directed that direction to make use of the gap created. Regards, Mike S.
