No one ever mentions it has 7 levels! 3 of which must be underground. Now why in the hell would they dig down 3plus stories into the ground for a home in the 1870s??

Has there been any sightings of a spirts on the train derailment that happened east of Caledonia and before you get to Beaver Valley Road in Boone country? There is a plaque on the former derailment area on the Long Prairie path that was once the railroad track. I do not know if anyone died there. The plaque does not say if anyone did. I have seen a dark figure with an old-style train conductor hat on in that area. I saw it on a bright sunny day around noon running across the path. It did not look to see if anyone was on the path, nor did it lean forward to run up the steep embankment or lean back as it ran down it. It was 50 yards from me. When I got to the area it was there was no cross path nor any footprints since the area was muddy that day. I use to be on this bike path daily. I only have seen this figure once.

Wow, what a beautiful and very special old home! Thank you for posting this. I wish I could visit it in person. It is so beautiful.

What a gorgeous old home! I guess I am an "old soul." I prefer an earlier time in history over the present day. To me, a house like this is much more desirable than anything built today.

I am so enjoying your books and stories. Love the mystery, history, and back stories. You certainly captivated the audience in your writing and storytelling capabilities. I am so excited to tour more locations and learn more. My list of places I want to visit is growing by the day and am excited to see what you select for next year's tours, investigations and stories. My fondness for history mystery and hunting's was strong but is growing more each day with the more I read and learn.

Would love to be able to buy a place like this and turn it into a bed and breakfast/ historic place for people to enjoy.

Thanks for your comment. Yes, it's an amazing building. Might be a little large for a bed and breakfast, but it even has a gym and a huge laundry room.

My Great Grandmother was the aunt of Barbara Hamilton. I only heard that she had died young but until recently never knew the circumstances. I can't verify the story of the horse but I can tell you that the Barbara Hamilton story was tragic for all concerned. Her death ended her parents' marriage as her father abandoned the family after she died unable to live in the same house with her memory.

I never heard of this story before. My sister is in a nursing home in Rock Falls and we pass through Dixon on the way so I had been in the area and crossed over the river there many times. Thanks for sharing.

Interesting. It is still listed as one of the worst bridge collapses in the US, based on the number of deaths.

Thanks for your interest. Kathi doesn't have a book on the subject. The original written version of this article is at: www.hauntedrockford.com/truesdell-bridge-disaster/
