"The Long Game" is a movie about Mexican caddies who were determined to play the game that they loved. 1. Balance: The movies create a balance between entertainment and creating awareness about societal issues that were prevalent in Texas during the 1950's. The story is about a high school golf team of Mexican Americans, seeking to overcome racial boundaries through their kindness and perseverance. This story is told through lighthearted moments, such as the humor of the character named Pollo, who would often make jokes that would make the audience laugh. It was also told through serious moments, where the character JB Pena took the fall for one of his golfers and went to jail. 2. Attitude Awareness: The film also does a really good job at portraying the prejudices that many Mexican Americans faced, highlighting the unjust system that they faced and the strength of those who fought against this system. In this movie, the unjustness stemmed from the fact that nobody wanted to see Mexicans play golf, and the strength was demonstrated in the resilience that their golf team had to fight through the adversity that they faced. One example of this is seen when JB and Frank Mitchell (his friend) played a golf match against the country club's owner and their friend, where they played for each other's clubs. JB had a chance at victory, but Frank told him to lose the game purposely once he noticed how angry their opponents were becoming. Frank told JB that he can't make them an enemy, but rather develop a friendship with them to use it to his advantage. As a result, JB ended up losing his grandfather's clubs. 3. Dignity of the Human Person The dignity of the human person is the most evident media key presented in the film. Despite the racial discrimination that they faced, the characters demonstrate their value through their golfing abilities and through their personality. It is through their ability to avoid the turmoil, and to perform on the golf course, that the team becomes seen as equal to the other golfers. At the end of the film, they win the golf tournament. There was no trophy presentation, however, and their team was not invited to the party inside of the country club after. The team, in response, carried their trophy through the party with smiles on their faces. It was at this moment that the other teams grew respect for them and began to applaud their victory. 4. Truth Filled: The film is truth filled because it is based on real events. This means that the movie creates a truthful depiction of what many Mexican Americans went through during this time period. The truth of the story stems from the fact that there were really five Mexican American high school students who were banned from playing golf at an all-white country club. Despite the ban, they were determined to play the game that they loved. To play, they ended up making their own make-shift golf course and trained themselves. Eventually, they formed their own team and won a state championship. 5. Inspiring: This movie is extremely inspirational because it demonstrates how a group of people, with seemingly the whole world against them, can come together through teamwork, perseverance, and kindness in order to achieve their dreams. It seems as if there were no obstacle that could stop them from reaching their goal. This leaves the viewers with a sense of hope that they too can achieve their dreams, despite any obstacles that they may be facing. It was the humbleness of each of the players that carried them to overcoming their opponents against all odds. They never retaliated, regardless of their adversities. 6. Skillfully developed: The movie is skillfully developed in both the way that it was created and in its storytelling. The way that the story is told is able to keep the audience engaged throughout the whole film, building up serious moments, as well as creating moments of laughter. The movie did a great job with its acting, as well as establishing scenes that portray what it was like in Texas during this time. 7. Motivating: This film is extremely motivating and relevant to experience. The movie, and its director, ultimately push for viewers to push through societal barriers that they come across in order to reach their goals. Not only that, but it encourages them to do it in the right manner. It also demonstrates how we cannot go through everything alone. That with the help of our friends, and our family, there is nothing that can prevent us from achieving our dreams. This means that both our own personal growths are encouraged, as well as efforts for communal growth in the sense that we can help continue to build a society that stems away from racial discrimination. It also demonstrates just how far humbleness can take us. Their humbleness did more for them in reaching their dreams than any retaliation would have.

Wow, its hard to believe that a lot of people were racist (not all of them). Things have really changed, thank God. I am Mexican and my husband is a gringo 😊. Him and his family are the most loving people. Wnen I see some people playing the "race card", they have no idea what racism really is. Great movie!

It was a good movie, however there were inaccuracies... sure, based on a true story, means at least 5% has to be facts... however, if you look closely in the movie, the flag has 50 stars... the 50th star, for Hawaii, wasn't added to the US flag until July 4th, 1960...

Mexicans were treated horribly like black Americans. Yet they are also racist against black Americans

I always love this debate that people say about "Mexicans being better than African-Americans, so why do they get the special treatment." There's a difference between black and brown. Before that, there's a similarity. We share a past that parallels one another. Both cultures have been through terrible pasts. Blacks with slavery, Mexicans with turmoil from the Americans. We will always have those engrained in both of our races. Now, the difference between the two. Blacks will always have an advantage of being "American", whereas Mexicans - are forever an illegal, or sacrifice their own lives to bring forward their offspring for a better life. This isn't an act of racism. This is an act of bettering ourselves, to continue moving forward. You have people like MLK, Malcolm X, Rosa Parks fight for African American rights, and I'm grateful for them that they worked their hands off to better the world for Black Americans. But, we only had one person - Cesar Chavez, fight for rights for an entire population that was the West and the South. Even today, Hispanics/Mexicans are still portrayed as a stereotype that, we are wetbacks, lazy, and eat tacos. Call it out of pocket, but an African American's life, depending is easier than a Mexican's life and all the trouble we had to deal with since fruition. This movie, truly reveals that, and makes *ME* proud to be Mexican. Blacks and Mexicans have their strengths and weaknesses, but to shimmy one culture because they're different, and come from a completely different country is sad. My 2 cents.

Hollywood, I’m begging you, please make more movies like this! My emotions were all over the place, constantly throughout the movie. The acting was done brilliantly. Many thanks to the Quaids for investing in this very worthwhile project. We need to be reminded that, going back to the 50s is not something we should always aspire to, the racism was just this bad. Beautiful movie and I appreciate everyone who took part in creating it.

if ya'll understood this movie properly, it was about life and how we see it today and how we can have perseverance through criticism. if we stick to our goals and see the perspective in any situation, then it will give us a better understanding of who we are and what we want for our future. a lot of us make decisions based off of criticism, experience, influence, and how we were raised. it is our responsibility to show influence in a better form. we need to celebrate each other more, we are always criticizing others because of our own accomplishments. because of the criticism we all endure everyday, our mind tends to picture these negative words and turn them into pictures of reality which can change the decisions of others and what they will do in their future. we need to have better confidence within ourselves. the mask you wear will eventually come off and you can become the person you truly want to be without any worry of criticism. when your house of wax melts, which will reveal the fraud inside which will not matter to you if you know where you are going and you truly know yourself. a lot of criticism is made because the other person can not understand or see what your idea of life is. everyone has their own thought of life. if you do not like what's under the wax, then of course your going to start criticizing others because you have not set your life goals. once you set your life goals, you daily routine will naturally change towards that goal. but make sure you stick to your goal and no one else's, persevere in every situation you come across! Read this book if you have time: The Seeds of Greatness - Dennis Waitley.

In the late 60s I remember racism. I am white but we lived in a mostly black neighborhood. Most didn't like me but some people did. My father told me there are two kinds of people. The ones you get along with and the ones you don't. Now at this time I have to relive racism because it being brought back into our society where it doesn't for most part exsist. I see no good in it. And I refuse to watch movies with a political or social agenda. I am far above this type of ignorance.
