@bishoplifting737913 сағат бұрын
That's resourceful! The danger of using a hammer or any other non-specific swaging tool is that it is really easy to crimp the wires in a way that undermines their integrity, or to under-crimp accidentally. Very hard to get it right. Stay safe out there!

Im curious to know what type of heat is being generated at the breakpoint from tension, have you guys tested that with an IR gun?
@bishoplifting73797 күн бұрын
Interesting question! We have not checked the actual temperature caused by friction/tension during a polyester webbing break test, but we know it's enough to start melting the outer layers, even on round slings, so it has to be at least 482 degrees Fahrenheit... There's always scorching/discoloration where friction was directly applied, so it's probably higher than that. We have an IR gun we use for the zinc spelter socket process, so we'll try that next time we do a break test. Thanks for your input! 👍

I've seen videos where it doesn't matter what chain or lock you use, because the numb nuts installing the "secure" point to which you are supposed to lock your bicycle is weaker than the lock and the chain. So the theif just brings a battery driven angle grinder and cuts the "secure" point. Be sure to control the quality of the secure point before you lock your object.
@bishoplifting73797 күн бұрын
Good note! For one of our demo shorts, we showed locking a fence up, and the joke from viewers was that they'd just run the fence over. 😂

@@bishoplifting7379 Here's the video I was looking for but didn't find atm, now it suddenly appeared. Though, it was not even a angle grinder, but a very silent approach! kzbin.infoGj9G2tOBzXA?si=8osxDhwEb0efv_vv You Should ALWAYS put the locking mechanism through a wheel to make it a lot harder. They can however still move it from there with another vehicle.

@@sykoteddy Dude. People can really be **I'm a professional so I can't use the words I want to, but you know what I want to say...**
@sykoteddy9 күн бұрын
Call me ignorant if you want, but I had no idea there was specific tools for this, but I could imagine it though. But at the same time, I have never really used wire (ropes) other than for bicycles. I'm from Sweden so I haven't really heard it being called wire rope before either. We just call it wire. What about wire locks? I mean those that you can use to clamp down a wire with bolts, how safe or unsafe are they?
@bishoplifting73797 күн бұрын
We're glad we found something new to show you! Wires are twisted into wire rope, which is why we don't use the words interchangeably. Sometimes we use "cable" to describe wire rope, but it depends. What you're describing sounds like wire rope clips! We've done a video on those, too: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6bRZXuwZceZmKMsi=5oJSECdDqQHSRUJn.
@sykoteddy3 күн бұрын
@@bishoplifting7379 Yea, those I mean is for sure multiple strands of wire twisted like a wire rope. If I recall correctly those used on bikes are ussually called "wire cable". Is just a "wire" itself a single strand then? Sorry, it becomes more of a gramatical thing than what you are working with :P Thanks for the link.
@bishoplifting73793 күн бұрын
@@sykoteddy Different people, especially in geographic areas that are far apart, use different phrases. For us, it's wires > strands (wires twisted into cord-like pieces) > wire rope or cable (strands twisted together to create finished product we use for slings and such). Poe-tay-toe, poe-tah-toe 😁

could you do a Splicky crimp on a Joylent slackfast next?
@vyvianalcott168114 күн бұрын
The splice didn't fail but is it possible the ring crimps slightly too much introducing a new failure point? If it breaks at the ring every time it's the ring causing the failure.
@melonlab8014 күн бұрын
Everything is going to fail somewhere, yes it may have introduced a weak point but there will be a weak point somewhere in any rope, chain, cable setup where it will fail first. It held past its rated strength so that's a pass, and didn't come apart at the splice.
@bishoplifting737914 күн бұрын
Yes, that is possible (if you read the full description, we discuss this a bit). This is the reason a swage end doesn't have 100% efficiency.
