Altar is my favorite place on earth!

Started skiing there in the 60's. My father was ski patrol there for ten years. Got to go skiing with Stein, Alf, Dick Bass, Mel Dalebot, Warren Miller, and Suzy Chaffic, to name some of the legendary skiers of the day. My dad's ashes are scattered on Sugarloaf. It's still my favorite resort.

I’m just glad that there’s places where all of the clueless skiers can flock to. lol Also, the argument that snowboards are more destructive to the terrain/snow surface is just a myth that was created by skiers. Science has proven that both skis and snowboards create the same amount of damage to the terrain. Skiers are weird.

People come from all over the world to SKI Alta. Not a snowboarder in sight. That's just fine with me. Skied a waist deep day there. The comment about not being connected to the earth is spot on. Closest thing to flying like a bird. A truly spiritual experience.

Last time I skied at Alta, I was in powder chest high...very memorable. Alta, Taos, Telluride, Jackson Hole, Snowbird...5 best ski areas.

Please please allow snowboarding. A lot of us aren’t truck stoppers ruining the slopes. 😢

If you snowboard go to snowbird

It's almost 2025 and alta still doesn't allow snowboarding. Wtf alta. Quit being stupid.

I watch this video a couple time a month while I wait for next season meanwhile I am still skiing your snow in July just wish I had a lift. I think keep wildcat open so it ain’t as long of a walk to ski main in July.

My second year skiing, I was 16 and got a seasons pass at Alta. I vividly recall the run that my friend and I figured out how to ski powder. It had been taught to me, but it was on that run, down Greeley Bowl that we both figured it out. That unlocked a whole new world.

Snowboarders must be stopped! They’re all hippies with dirty long hair.😂

I havent seen Alta since 1978. I was working at Snowbird. Alta's low key style was wonderful. it was not at that time [yet] ruined by the look of money and wealth and exclusivity, that fancy commercial glam BS that is so common at top operations. I hope Alta has not changed. I prefer X-C because it allows me to take in the most important things while the focus on downhill is to go fast and dominate the mountains. To be close to the incredible beauty of the mountains is why I X-C ski.

Soul of pretentious

This captures what makes Alta truly different - a mountain for skiers based on fabulous snow. I skied there more than 100 days in the 1980's and I can attest that the footage of waist deep powder isn't staged. I knew I'd found something unusual when I saw local high school hot shots showing up with snorkels on the big powder days. No one goes there for the scene, just for the skiing and yes, the place does have a unique soul. I've skied all over the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Alta is the best.

Video's first rhetorical answer: "First of all, it's Alta not Alta". I guess that must mean Alta is pretty sweet.

Haha so great! Too bad all they care about is barring access to public lands except for Alta pass holders, as well as destroying the landscape of little cottonwood canyon by building a gondola and ever expanding into public lands in grizzly gulch.

What i love about alta is that once you become a local (and this is different from any other place i have ever been) you are expected to act like a host for all the visitors. The ethos of politeness and community is what makes Alta extra special. Now about those icon passes?

Alta sold its soul when they partnered with IKON and implemented paid/reserved parking. not to mention the fact that they are snowboard racists operating on public US forest service land

This made me so homesick. I moved away a couple of years ago and I miss this place. I loved going to Alta year round. Growing up in Salt Lake I spent lots of time up there. The memories this brought back are wonderful. Now if the Canyon Inn would do a flashback video I could revisit some of the best times of my life when needed 😊

I love Alta, and skied hundreds of days there. But their soul died a bit when they signed up to be on the IKON pass system.

Is it better than Hokkaido? The snow here is pretty damn good - Rusutsu, Furano, etc. Lift tickets for less than $60/day too.

My last ride of the year 2022 was down main chute Alta, 1st tracks, waist deep in May. I got applause from skiers. Poach it!

I like skiing Alta but what a weird, outdated form of discrimination to ban snowboarders. Clearly you are stuck in the 80s in a fight against hotdoggers and hooligans.

A place that bans snowboarding in 2024, on National Forest Land, has no soul. Don't kid yourself.
