Can we use reg house paint, or acrylic paint, instead of gesso?

Yes, you can use whatever paint you’re going to use as a priming base on any naked canvas or paper. Gesso is generally less expensive so we’re not using our expensive paint to prime the canvas as it can take a few layers to stop absorbing into the canvas. If you’re going to paint with house paint for a base it’s best to continue to use house paints for your painting. If you prime with gesso or acrylic paint, you can paint with acrylic, vinyl or oil paint over the acrylic. However, most canvases that you buy at the store these days are already primed with gesso when you buy them, that’s why they’re white and usually rough feeling 😉. If they’re already primed you do not need to apply gesso or prime them again unless you want a different texture (smoother/rougher) 😊✌️🎨

@@MozzafiatoArt Thank you so much for your kind words. I never plan any of my pieces, but I have to go straight to stretching raw canvas and prepping and never paint on paper before. Then I procrastinate about when I’m going to paint on a 36 x 36 inch canvas 😂. The only place I quiet my mind is when I paint on the sand at the beach or in the bush here in Australia and trying to cart every colour and the rest you need, I really am doing it to myself. Then there is posting my work. I have one post out of pure fear. I look forward to seeing some of your other vids. Thank you again. Your work is inspirational and beautiful
