How about transplanting? Is that done after flowering or in the fall? Thanks

How do your Azalias look now? I just did a wack job on my Encore Azalias, which a person we hire to prune but charges a fortune to do it, said needed to be done. I just watched some youtube videos and went for it. It's somehow very satisfying! 🤣

The problem I've had doing this is that the rejuvenation cuts stimulate so much growth that, in the next couple of years, the shrub ends up clogged and leggy. I've seen a few rejuvenation videos, but I've not seen videos describing how to prune when the azalea explodes. My shrubs tend to shoot out long stems that then form a whorl of about 5 branches at the end. On one of my shrubs, I didn't want to stress the plant the next year or two and the result was a shrub about chest high, all the green leaves at the outside, and an interior that was totally shaded, filled with twigs, and super dense. It's hard to figure out where to begin! Thanks for the video!

Kind of a late response, but if you're getting those shoots at the end of a cut, you may not be pruning in the correct location on the shrub. If you leave a nub sticking out, it will usually cause those shoots. You want to get as close to the tree as possible, there's a "collar". Cutting to the collar will allow the bush to heal over better and use its energy into the parts you do want to grow. (Anyone correct me if I'm wrong, im not an expert)

Your video was very informative and enjoyable. Prudent Mallard has interested me for a long time. I have a question: Tom McGee, you said that Prudent Mallard "never made furniture; he was a retailer," but on the site "The Historic New Orleans" there is a receipt from 1859 from Prudent Mallard that says at the top (in print) "P. Mallard, Importer and Manufacturer of Furniture" . www.hnoc.org/virtual/goods-every-description/prudent-mallard The receipt is magnified here where the description says: "Scope and Content: Billhead issued to Mr. L. Malus by P. Mallard, importer and manufacturer of furniture at 67 Royal and 80 Bienville Street." hnoc.minisisinc.com/thnoc/catalog/3/15887 This looks to be a primary source of information. Could you share some sources on Prudent Mallard as a retailer but never having made any furniture? Or would you please elaborate on what you mean by "never made any furniture"? For example, did you mean he himself never made vs. his company never made, etc.? Any information on this would be appreciated. Thank you.
