😂 "If you want to create a removable high-baffle for your saxophone mouthpiece, here's a quick method that works well! Take an old soprano reed, and if you're working with a tenor mouthpiece, placing the tip side of the reed faciing the mouthpiece tip rail -to replicate a step-baffle. This design boosts airflow speed, giving you a louder, edgier tone. Turn the reed flat side up, cut it to your desired baffle length, and wedge it in the mouthpiece, leaving a small gap from the tip. ( You can as well adjust the height ),cut a small size of a used wine cork as a secondary wedge to place underneath the end part of the reed for extra support, and secure both it with a small amount of shoe contact cement for a firm bond. This setup mimics the characteristics of high-baffle mouthpieces, offering more projection and brightness for genres like rock or funk. Hope this helps! 🎷" That's how i turned my large chamber ,low baffle 0.115 to a heavyweight .. best you can file down the soprano reed edges so that the baffle goes down more into the mouthpiece to reduce the brightness 😂

@@ubongntiah2000 Genius! You should make a video for this! And thanks for the tip with shoe contact cement, because I have been squeezing super glue and it usually touches my fingers somewhere. Lately I have used Air Dry Modeling clay. Easy to mold with a screwdriver. Work ing great for 6 months now.
Great comparison! Very helpful for those of us trying to learn more about microphones. I do agree with your top two. Playing them together was very interesting, and it did sound great! I would think that the audio technic just isn’t very good for recording saxophone?
@MarkPeotter14 күн бұрын
@paulandrobin1 My Audio Technica dynamic mic has little boost in the high midrange. Maybe Audio Technica wanted to help a singers voice cut through a live band? Saxophone has so many complex overtones, so I prefer my Neumann for recording that.

Wow that sounds nice. I was hoping to find one using standard tuning. In open G, i would need to switch guitars really fast to get into the next Floyd song i want to play in a medley.
@MarkPeotterАй бұрын
@robbiedaug Thank you! If your medley includes the first part of the song "Breathe" you have time to switch guitars before your first slide entrance. The next song in the medley will also need to start with keyboards, while you switch guitars again. Or, you can stop playing slide early, before you start the next song on guitar.

Very helpful - thanks!! Btw - I had an unusual issue where my reed wouldn’t play properly in the lower register, with sound cutting out. Turned out it was severely convex on the mouthpiece surface, and didn’t lay flat as a result. I used reed geek to make it a flat surface, and corrected the problem! Very unusual!!
@MarkPeotterАй бұрын
@paulandrobin1 Convex? Curving away from the tip? Wow, that is strange.
@paulandrobin1Ай бұрын
@@MarkPeotter it was convex at the base, where reed touches the flat surface of the mouthpiece. And severely so! I could tell by how reed shavings came off on the reed geek, all in the middle, none at the edges. It wasn’t producing a proper seal, so when I flattened it the air could go through consistently. Most of my attempted fixes don’t go this smoothly!
@MarkPeotterАй бұрын
@@paulandrobin1 Yes, very rare reed problem. I am impressed that you got it to work at all! From about 2012 to 2020 it seemed like most of my reeds (and I tried several brands during that time) were too thick on the right and left edges. Did you have the same problem?

@mark peotter I have the Drake #7 metal Sanborn piece and love the response of the piece itself. However, I am experiencing (i think) either "shrill" or "stale" in the middle register of my horn. I was wondering if you would have an opportunity to listen to my sound and tell me what you think perhaps could be the reason for it? Do you think it would be worth switching to the Resin model that might fix some of my issue? Perhaps my tone is "too bright" ? You have a beautiful tone by the way!
@MarkPeotter2 ай бұрын
@LivermoreFilm Yes, I am willing to offer a little help. Please send me a message in FaceBook, and we can set up a virtual meeting. Not mentioned in this video, I later sent the Sanborn resin piece back to Drake and exchanged it for the Sanborn Metal #7. It works much better for me!

@@MarkPeotter I do not have Facebook but my wife does. I recently uploaded 2 videos just this morning on my KZbin video for your review. 😊
@MarkPeotter2 ай бұрын
@@LivermoreFilm I watched both videos. well done! You are playing a sax that has a dark tone. I used to have one myself! Your tone is good! I would suggest trying to re-set your lower lip slightly less inside your mouth - move your lip about a quarter inch forward on your lower teeth, and set the reed there. See if you like it. You should hear an even bigger tone, with easier low notes, and easier high notes. If there is any shrilly-ness, it was not evident in the recording. I am suspecting that you are just becoming accustomed to hearing this radical change in your tone due to the radical bright overtones in the Sanborn mouthpiece. Rock on!

Maybe you are new to playing Slide Guitar? It is a common practice to tune the guitar to an open chord. You can try using standard tuning, but some of the notes will not "line up" on the same fret.
