I never thought I would disagree with somebody like Charles spurgeon but he's wrong. Receiving the holy ghost is a separate act of grace that you can only have once you have been saved. Hold on to say, " Laid hands on them And prayed for them to receive the holy ghost and they spoke with other tongues. The doctrine of The baptism in the holy ghost as well as other doctrinal points Had vanished once Constantine turned Christianity into a state religion And on through the dark ages. The Azusa street revival Renewed The doctrine of the baptism of the holy ghost. Pentecostalism has become the largest growing Part of Christianity for years now.

So when we are saved we become (at salvation) the temple of the Holy Spirit. Now the Baptisim of the Spirit is power to witness for Christ acts 1:8 and that’s what Holy Spirit filled apostles (John 20:22) were doing. Jesus gave them the Spirit and then also they were filled with the Spirit at Pentecost (Baptisim of the Holy Spirit) acts 1. So when we are saved we get the Holy Spirit but there is a continual filling of the Spirit for gospel proclamation.

I’ve never heard of preacher like this guy. He lived in the 1800s. Though his words are from, let’s call it, the 1800s with their particular vernacular, this message rings, true, and clear and specific and heartwarming and piercing. In other words, he preaches the word of God. Timeless. Boundless. Eternal.

Videos like these are becoming quite suspect. There have been multiple occasions when it is clear, things were mentioned that hadn't even been invented at the time. It's also hard to imagine CH Spurgeon saying OMG.

I love Charles Spurgeon but this has caused a fear that God doesnt hear my prayers, my thoughts , my devotions maybe be all in vain as I suffer with doubts at times and lack of faith which I don't want ..this has been torment and sadly feel worse now.😢😢😢

I did not listen to this sermon, but one thing I know is as a believer, you know Jesus died for your sins. All past, present, and future. He arose, and you sit with him because the Holy Spirit, who is a person, abides in you. Do not fear. God loves you. Live by His Grace and Truth you are His child. He is with you always.

Beloved Christian, many saints throughout Scripture doubted at times, even wanted to die in despondency and despair. Read about Elijah, Moses, Jonah, David in Psalm 73, and Jeremiah in Lamentations 3. Aso, in Matthew 11, notice that John the Baptist even doubted the Lord Jesus Christ as his time of death was at hand. And, read, study, and meditate upon John 14:27, John 16:33, Hebrews 13:5, and John 17. You are not alone in the Struggle with remnant of flesh, worldliness, and the prince of powers of the air! May the love of God the Father, in our Lord Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit comfort you in being strengthened by grace just for today! BTW, no one knows how to pray as this too is a spiritual discipline we are learning through sanctification in humility and meekness. Romans 8, Ephesians 3:14-21, Romans 11:33-36 & Matthew 4:4

And to think that some people who have the TRUTH venerate this man. This man spewed philosophy, not the word of God. Read the book of Acts people. It tells you how to get the Holy Ghost and actually shows that all the New Testament saints got it the same and only way you can get it. Sheesh!

This man is filth You receive the spirit the moment you call upon the name of the Lord in faith beleiving jesus died, was buried and rose the 3rd day as payment for all sins past present and future Irrespective of how you continue to live after salvation. Spurgeon was a reprobate false prophet.

Because its not in our fallen nature to trust in God. Thats why we need the holy spirit to teach us. . no one trusts in God perfectly. He pieth us like a father pitys his son. He know we are made of dust and that our frame is weak. Thank God through Christ that we our indeed in great need of his mercy while on this cursed world

@stephenwan has the right approach to understanding verse. He says "food for thought", and may this add to that sentiment. I am in my golden years and have little concerned myself with the Word of God until about 5 years ago. It seems from reading comments there are many poorly informed of what the Word of God says and what the significance on a personal and societal level is and how the teaching should and could be applied. The Gospel of Mark 14:3-9 is a passage which may be worth considering in this respect. At the 9th verse Jesus states that this 'anonymous' woman should be memorialized where the gospel is taught. Are those who are teaching the gospel doing so? I have yet to hear mention of this woman and have listened to possibly some 500+ sermons, or maybe about ten to twelve years worth of Sundays. My opinion is that Spurgeon would say she should be mentioned and it is possible that he would have mentioned her but like the nation that God is still waiting for the scales to fall from their eyes, Spurgeon may have also been blinded regarding this woman and may never have mentioned her even though Jesus states that she should be remembered. It seems that she was guided to anoint our savior as king of kings and Lord of lords. And those who were closest to Jesus failed to recognize this. As stephenwan commented, " food for thought".

Sermon dated October 9, 1959 text from Ephesians. When we cause another grief, when we offend, we are called to make amends by confessing our distress of heart and apologize. Anger begets anger. Grieve not the Holy Spirit - do not vex Him, and force Him to punish us. The love of the Father, Son and the Spirit is eternal.
