Mary's attitude here alway's confused me here after all she is their mother. You could argue that coming back from the dead changed her personality a bit like it has done with Sam and Dean, like Sam has become less naive and trusting, Dean is more serious and less happy-go-lucky, however despite what Sam might say, one thing that has never really changed is how much the brothers care about each other and when I first watched Supernatural it felt like Sam and Dean 1 or 2 times every season, So Mary doesn't really have a leg to stand on here

I love the way this did feel like a family argument. The whole thing with “the face” was really fitting, and the way that Dean said one thing and Mary heard another? What Dean said was “How about for once, you just try and be a mom?” He wasn’t asking her to just be a mom, like she seemed to hear that as. He was asking her to just *try.*

To me this scene was made to 100% depict that Dean is not Sam's brother, he is his MOTHER.. parent. It clearly shows why he can't let Sam die, because he is his parent he raised him literally by himself.. This is obvious throughout the series but this scene confirms this imo. It's not being selfish or anything it's simply parent's instinct that they cannot accept their child's death and there's no reasoning needed. It simply is the worst thing that could possibly happen to a parent to lose a child. So this is the message this scene portrays :,) Dean is a loving parent he is more than Sam's big brother. Similar to season 2 Sam's death when he didn't even blink twice to bring him back. It's a normal parent thing that needs no explanation and Sam later on comes to fully grasp and realize this <3 kudos to top-notch character development <3
