I don't think avalanche airbags existed at the time and if they did they were so uncommon most people didn't know they existed

that rider at 1:25 broke rule #1 only one rider on the mountain at a time

I saw two riders in the slide. One near and one all the way on the other side. While the hero who abandoned his ride (truly) was tending to the near rider, I would have opened up my machine and helped the other rider. But, at 4:19 it seems, the other rider in the Avalanche is giving the thumbs up and the cam rider then responds and tends to the near rider. Heroism on all sides! Kudos. Very scary stuff!

Anything over 30 degrees can and will slide. One at a time so if it does happen you can find your buddy and your not wasting time looking for two people. Lucky for you guys that was just a baby, hope you learned something. By the way it was inevitable that was going to slide one sled or two had no bearing on the situation. Anybody call the avy report? Good thing it slid when it did or all 4 of you guys would have been hit, these are mountains they will kill you.

Wow I wish I could have been there for that. Did you guys learn anything from that, was your buddy OK? I have buddies that pull that same shit when riding, I wait and tell them not to ride on it when I am, if they do I just don't ride it anymore. And guess what they are from MT just like me. The only difference is I started sledding so I could access better skiing. You learn real quick that avalanches are going to happen and taking precautions like the 1 at a time rule is a must.

It is because of the wide angle lense. With a HERO 2 on the bumper of my car I can be almost touch another car and through the camera it is like I am two car lenghts away.

I rode the Lionshead area about a week before this and the snow was falling down heavy and we came up to a slope that had recently slid...spooky stuff! Great Area to ride all day though and nice sleds!

I'm glad you guys are alright! You should really appreciate everyday on earth after that one! I re-uped my Aval. saftey course last year, something like 90% of fatalities are flatlanders, I found myself warning every single one I ran into. Good luck, be safe!

Perfect example of one on the hill at a time. Single riders pounded that, what, 8-10 times, but as soon as 2 guys were on it together it came down. Glad you guys were all ok.
