I just shot my Springfield 1911 Range Officer Champion 230gr and a Sig X-Ten 10mm 180gr and the 45 ACP had WAY more recoil. The 10mm felt like a hot 9mm load, super easy to control. 45 felt way stronger. I guess 4” vs 5” barrel had a lot to do with it but it was my first time shooting 10mm and I was expecting it to feel powerful. Not sure why 10mm has a stigma, it really just felt like 9mm to me.

I have 9 10mm. But I love 45acp too. There are tons of tribesmen, japs/germans/vc/terrorists that would disagree that 45 is not effective.

answering the question of which to choose: having owned both in multiple platforms over many years, the 45 ACP each and every time. More POWERFUL is not the same as more EFFECTIVE. Both rounds have almost identical sectional density, TKO and momentum. They perform similarly inside of 25 yards.

People in this comment section act like 10mm is recoiling like 44 Magnum. It isn’t that bad. It takes getting used to, but is manageable if you do some push-ups and get stop drinking soy milk lol If you say people aren’t buying it, you haven’t been paying attention. The 45ACPs are the largest, heaviest and slowest rounds tested. This helps with some ammunition types and hurts in others. Many of the agencies involved in this test use this cartridge. 45ACP hollow points have traditionally recorded the best results when grading penetration and PWC when compared to all other calibers. The penetration results from this test match the previous 6 tests. The 45 and the 10mm have the best penetration and the 45 has the most consistency. It also demonstrates the most reliability by having the lowest fail to function percentage. The design features the largest meplat resulting in better functioning. The 45ACP recorded an average of only 10% degradation due to barriers which are the best numbers for any hollow point. The 45ACP hollow points have a PWC which is larger than all other calibers. Also, like the other calibers hollow points the 45ACPs results are best when utilizing the heaviest grain available. Lastly, on average after 7 tests the 45 hollow point creates an average PWC size 50% larger than a 9mm and 15-30% larger than the other calibers in both gel and actual tissue media. FMJs create a wound diameter roughly the size of the caliber and all caliber FMJs penetrate very deeply. So the 45ACP FMJ has the largest PWC with equal penetration, reliability, consistency and barrier performance to other calibers. The area of the 9mm/357 SIG is .1 and the area of a 45 is.16. So with an FMJ or an unexpanded hollow point if both the 9mm/357 SIG and 45 penetrate the same depth the 45 will create a PWC that is 60% larger! The area of a 40S&W/10mm is .12

Where did you buy the parts for the build ?

Buffalo Bore, Grizzly, Corbon and a couple others make light grain +P 45ACP that perform great.. and much better than a lot of 9mm. Also too many manufacturers of 10mm ammo are underpowering their loads these days, to the point of being on par with .40. It basically all boils down to grain weight and pressures.. This forever debate of which caliber is better than the other has been beaten into the ground and is getting really old.. We dont need to hear this for the millionth time, move on already

I think it’s pretty much common knowledge that 10mm is a superior cartridge to 45 acp these days. 45 acp just has such great history in this country that it will never go away. Bottom line, I don’t want to be shot with any of the major calibers because all are deadly. There was a guy in my town who got into a bar fight and had a 45 acp. He shot 4 rounds and killed 3 and injured 1. So yes, 45 acp is still a very capable round.

I would agree with you for the most part and you made your case well. For the folk who have already invested in the 45 they shouldn't be encouraged to reinvest in a new caliber. There are plenty of great main stream manufacturers producing great self defense ammo for 45. And the same point that you make with the Underwood class of offerings is equally true with the 45. The 10 is absolutely superior in a head to head and is more versatile as well. It is basically an equivalent to the 357 magnum power( not 41 magnum) which is very respectable. I have carried both over the nearly 4 decades of carrying handguns. I have landed in the 40 cal club primarily. Thankfully the only time I have drawn and used my handgun was on a dog. That was upsetting but necessary. Well done and thank you.

10mm is the round that the Archangel Michael used when fighting against satan during the war in heaven… and Michael won. Lol. But seriously, I love the 10mm. I run mines with g9 defense external hollow point rounds, or underwood extreme penetrators.

My G40 10mm is my cold weather gun. I just got some 10mm 200gr blazer for 1 $22 a box of 50! Not too shabby at all

I’ve met 2 people in a decade that actually own a 10mm and neither have shot them more than once or twice. 10mm lives on KZbin and forums and Alaska. Plus 10mm factory ammo is no better than 40 in most cases. I don’t get it.

Two years later and I just picked up one of the last available MH25's for $3k, brand new. Whoot. They will come out with new and better stuff soon but for $3k, the MH25 is the right move.

I really like this because originally I built my 8.5 300blk AR to put in a bad and while I love the ability to be able to transport it whenever needed the weight quickly became an issue once the bag was loaded up with other daily items. I ended up building a G17 in a Recover stabalizer for my bag which compliments my daily on body carry of a G19.
