Pretty funny seeing all these comments 10-15 years later. The 49er class has produced, probably more than any other class, some of the most dominant sailors in recent history. Just take a look at all the wing trimmers/drivers in the America's cup for example.

Just one question. I read that the sail/wing and boat configuration must be declared 120 hrs prior to the race on that day. Question: Is the current deed of gift written by the last AC winner i.e.: Team New Zealand ? 34kts in 7 kts wind is amazing.
@JohntheNobleSavage
@JohntheNobleSavage 4 жыл бұрын
Impressive. I wonder however how it would perform on all points of the wind. The boat seems to me to undoubtedly be fast but a little too tight; but, I only have limited knowledge of sailboats which are faster than most sea worthy power boats. Oh well, the trauma of not being born a multi millionaire.

What a disgrace. That thing is not a 12m. Neither are those cats. It wasn't necessarily about how fast it was about tactics. TACKticks. Getting there first by sailing ON water. Knowing your ON the sea. Not an invention convention. The difference you can have is ridiculous. Similar and simple show of skill. Like the worlds in laser 420 470. basic Similar SKILL.

so to recap your comment; oh no, I hate progress, they should be racing in the same boats as a 100 years ago! The AC has always been about technological advancements and having the fastest boats. If you rather watch classic racing, there are a lot of regattas aimed at showing those beautiful classic yaghts sailing. However that is not and has never been the purpose of the AC.

@@xerxis100 the boats used in every AC iteration were the fastest they can think of in that given moment. Nobody ever won the cup with 'tacktics' on an outdated design.
