Hi im going to get into the drone fishing this summer. I am wondering what gear you use? Rod, reel, braid, capacity. Do you go out to a set distnace or does that change to suit? Nice video too,😊Stu.
@Reeladdictionnz
@Reeladdictionnz 5 ай бұрын
Hey Stu - all the best mate - I use a Penn 10500 reel with a 7ft rod. Braid is 60lbs + and holds about 6-800 metres on it. I’ll start with 300m out and then go further out if I’m not getting anything. Hope that helps!

what did you use on your drone to hold the line?
@Reeladdictionnz
@Reeladdictionnz 6 ай бұрын
Hey mate - I used a release gadget from dronedepot. Placed under the LED light of the drone, when you turn the light on, that triggers the release mechanism and drops the line 🫡

I thought the astroriser goes at the top? Does it do alright down by the sinker? I definitely notice a huge difference using it than without.
@Reeladdictionnz
@Reeladdictionnz 9 ай бұрын
Good point - I’ve always had them on the bottom but probably have it wrong - however always had a much easier time bringing it in! Do you have sinkers on the front of your trace?
@RUSTY93
@RUSTY93 9 ай бұрын
@@Reeladdictionnz nah bro, I have the astroriser attached with a rubberband onto the swivel that's attached to the mainline. Then I have 7 t-knot loops every 1.5ft for 5 hooks with the 2nd to last one I have a swivel attached to it with a 5oz Breakaway sinker and the 7th t-knot loop is a good 1m away from the breakaway sinkers loop which I use to attach to the drone (Mavic Pro) It's a sick set up and works mint for me

Makes me jealous. Just a warning, it is illegal in NZ to use undersize fish as live bait, so I assume the trevally was longer than 25cm.

Hey just came across and like what you produced. Are you making your own rigs up if so what size hooks. And I see you are putting beeds on every hook is that necessary?
@Reeladdictionnz
@Reeladdictionnz Жыл бұрын
Hey mate thanks for the message - yes I do. Usually somewhere between 5/0 - 7/0 have caught big fish on both hooks. Beads aren’t necessary but help keep the bait off the sand where the crabs get to the. Handy if you’re leaving your set out for longer than 10-15 mins a time or trying to catch multiple fish!

nice video- just to help you out... you need to raise the bail arm when your going out with your drone- if you keep the bail arm down and your just backing of the drag- the reel will heat up and your reel will need to be service in a few months time:-)- keep them vids going

Thanks appreciate the advice mate, only thing I was worried about with opening the nail arm was wind knots. You’ve had no problems with them?

you will want to put your hand on the spool so it doesn't overrun on you, this sorts out any bows in your line while your up in the air- check out pauls fishing systems videos for some great tips, I noticed a lot of structure in front of where u r fishing... did you use gogge satellite maps or boat maps to check this? @@Reeladdictionnz

I started out using traces about the same length as yours with reasonable results and then changed to a shorter trace of about 230mm long and found was catching a lot more fish, so now only run 5 hooks per set. Same drone as yours too...
@Reeladdictionnz
@Reeladdictionnz Жыл бұрын
Interesting, I’ll try that out thanks man. I’ve also used those hunting and fishing made flasher rigs tied with loop knots and they went well. They must only be 150mm long. Yeah I found only have 5-7 hooks was ideal so not to catch snags and making sure the breakaway sinkers stay in the ground.
