That’s the easiest walking ruffed grouse cover I’ve ever seen. Wish the woods I just crawled out of were like that in places! Beautiful dog work

We have to bushwack some, but in general there are open lanes to and from the grousy cover. But we have to cover a lot of miles on foot to hit them all.

Just finished training my bird dog this summer (3 year old gsp) can you make a video on how to identify grouse food sources or how to choose an area to hunt? My dog and I had a rough opening weekend😂
@birddogvet372817 күн бұрын
I'm far from an expert in the matter, but food, water and cover are universally required. The specifics will vary depending on elevation or region of the country, so it's hard for me to know exactly how to advise you. Congrats on getting the dog ready!

Aspiring veterinarian in undergrad here. Good to see that a guy with my hobbies is in the industry! Keep up the good work man, will definitely be here for future uploads.

Absolutely. Having passions outside of your profession is critical in this field.

I really should have mentioned this fact in the video. So true!
@ronblackburn368318 күн бұрын
It’s par for the course that the dogs didn’t get the memo that you’re done and pointed the bird of the day! The thinned pine stand probably was done to reduce pine bark beetle mortality; it creates treacherous walking but more grass and better habitat.

One day I hunted grouse in Colorado in the dense fog and found they had moved halfway down the mountain to the fog line. A dozen had congregated together for safety, I guess. My day ended early.

Seems to me like when it’s wet out they have held really well! Young ones especially. Enjoyed the video.

Does the rattlesnake vaccine help? Some Vets say no.
@birddogvet37285 жыл бұрын
In my experience, it has. It's hard to measure because every dog reacts differently to the venom, but I think it certainly isn't going to hurt and might save the dog's life.

What's your opinion on the Rattlesnake vaccine Dr.?
@birddogvet37285 жыл бұрын
I like it and I use it. I feel like it makes the reaction to bites less severe. It's certainly not a substitute for avoidance, though.

Nice videos. You can tell you have put a lot of work into your dogs and should feel proud of how they are performing. I have hunted with, and seen so many hunters, that don't take the time to train their dogs well and it can be very frustrating to watch. I love that look on your face climbing that steep slope. I have had that same look many a time hunting chukar. Keep the videos coming as they are really good.
@birddogvet37285 жыл бұрын
I appreciate that compliment, and I'm glad the hard work shows. Sometimes they're good in spite of my training, too.
