I find it interesting that this is so focused on emotions. Emotions are part of our psyche but they ignore the rest of our faculties in some sense. Psychology became a science when focusing on neurology. ???? Not true, science means that something is approached systematically. In a way that can be reproduced by others. Faculty Psychology is just when people started taking psychology more serious as an academic discipline. Faculty Psychology. This is when we conceptualized parts of our brain controlling our faculty. Functional Psychology. No basis for emotions like anger and sadness so, they start look at what caused emotions and the impact of emotions. Behavioral Psychology. Means the the mind and what you would think was irrelevant, the behavior observed was what was really relevant. Consciousness to Behavior. But behaviorism ignores our thoughts. Cognitive Psychology. Emotions were still ignored. 50s and 60s. Thoughts and rational, perceptions and attention, decision making. Embodiment Psychology. www.affective-science.org/pubs/2012/Lindquist_Barrett_2012_TiCS.pdf So I suppose this is the spectrum of how to view emotional experience frame work. Faculty (Functional emotions) to Constructructivism (Constructed emotions). Body and Brain. Signals interpreted as affect. Cancer NSA, energy, Affect for GDP? What does that look like? This emotional life Lie to me 1 Happinomics (Economics) 2 Reading the face (TSA) She says science to much 3 Models of the Mind (Courtroom policy) 4 New Vistas in Emotion and Technology

Sustainable? More like greedy. Complete disregard for the community they are affecting with their shortsighted plans. @northeastern is no different than any other large, greedy business. They are able to bypass zoning and construction laws under the veil of an educational institution. #Funu #keepnahantwild #lovenahant #notinmybackyard

If Northeastern was so concerned with Coastal Sustainability, they would not be proposing the building of a huge 60,000 square foot building and 100 plus car parking lot in a delicate coastal ecosystem. While this important research is needed, building such a large building and parking lot in this area will have a huge negative impact to the ecosystem they hope to protect.

Northeastern owns one of the most beautiful, no, THE most beautiful open space in the smallest town in the state of Massachusetts. What do they want to do with this Paradise on earth? Rip it up, pave it, and build a 60,000 square foot monstrosity, with no regard to the flora and fauna that have flourished there for eons. What a mockery of the whole "environmental science" movement. Their callous disregard for the natural beauty is eclippsed only by their downright loathing of the residents of Nahant. Add to that their disregard for all manner of sea life (as witnessed by their seawater intake/outake ) and there is absolutely NO QUESTION that Northeastern University plans to rape this beautiful spot, and to hell with damage, costs, science, or objection. They are despicable. I urge any person, student, or parent reading this to contact the university or the Marine Science Center directly, to voice your outrage over this preposterous plan!

If NEU cared about coastal sustainability they wouldn’t pump millions of gallons of warmed, untested seawater into Nahant bay. To my knowledge, they have never looked into the impact this water may have on Nahant’s own ocean ecosystem. We are also worried about the proposed expansion and 60,000 square-foot complex they plan on building on top of animal habitats and precious coastland. In Nahant we are deeply concerned about the environment. We are deeply concerned about science. We care about students. We care about academics. We care about scientists. I’m just afraid northeastern university is spouting hypocrisy for business gains. It’s dissapointing.

Nahant is the smallest town in MA. NU has plans to build a huge 60,000 square ft building on our beautiful coastline while also adding a powerful new pumping system to remove seawater with outtake waters returned at higher temperatures. These plans threaten our ocean and our coast. I find it very concerning that an academic marine science center would think is a good idea. In fact, the Town of Nahant totally opposes this expansion. This whole plan is simply unacceptable. Nahant says NO To Northeastern!

It seems odd that this “Coastal and Urban Sustainability Center” had not involved the local environmental groups, the local fishermen and the town and regional groups when developing their project. This video was fabulously produced with stunning visuals, great audio, high quality music and expert editing several years ago (2013). But the town residents just found out about their expansion plans to build a 60,000 sq foot facility and parking lots surrounding it a month or two ago (2018). NUMSC leaders are determined to go ahead for their expansion without an impact plan or a plan to work with the town which owns the open space park above the property of Northeastern University. Seems like they prefer abstract PR campaigns to reality-based coastal community engagement initiatives.
