Because they can't sing live at all and can't even pronounce their spoken lines to music. They are completely vocally powerless people. Here Bard is already aged, his voice is unstable even in the recording. Previously, he could sing in the studio and did it well (with his modest voice capabilities). But he was afraid to sing live, as he had once disgraced himself during the performances of "Barbie" (Bard's project before Army). Then he forgot the words of his recitative in one of the songs, and in another song he did not get his voice into the notes. After this incident, they never performed anything live again. Here, they are not singing in the choruses, but other singers, whose names are Britta Bergstrom and Joaqim Bergstrom, are singing. Other singers always sang in the choirs of their songs. Army's members are have always thought only about personal PR. "Drag show", "camp" is a fairy tale invented by Bard to cover his total vocal unprofessionalism.

@@bogadan a large part of Army of Lovers is a situationist attack on cultures using modern celebrity as a stand in for religious and state iconography. Showcasing themselves as talentless is a big part of the point. “I am a record label scam,” as Bard once sang and later lip-synched. And they are purposely like a drag act because the other big part of Army of Lovers has been using the hollow, manipulative tactics of 20th century media to put queerness in a mainstream context. They are named after a documentary about LGBT rights, after all. Bard may suck at singing but so does every drag queen who has to “sing” other people’s songs, and so did the models fronting contemporary dance acts of the late 80s and early 90s that they never sang on. Whether Bard came up with the idea because he sucked or in spite of it is irrelevant. Either way, the artwork functions by making you uncomfortable by making the mechanics of the performance obvious like a Bertolt Brecht play, calling attention to the audience’s own desire to be fooled and their complicity in what fools them while simultaneously dropping little revolutionary morsels. Think about all the former communist countries that hadn’t been exposed to any LGBT rights movements before acts like these came flooding onto their newly capitalist airwaves, and had previously only been exposed to this kind of posturing by politicians and a distant memory of religion. There’s a reason these territories are where Army of Lovers was most successful, and that’s the reason.
