On 3 Oct, 2011, I chanced upon someone special at the Westlife concert in Singapore. We had already known each other way back since 2009 as schoolmates (not close though), but it was only through this occasion that we slowly realized despite many differences, we actually share a lot of things in common - we love the same kind of music, same colors, same food, needless to mention the numerous times when we spoke about some pretty weird ideas in one voice (and of course, the smirks we gave to each other after that every time), as if everything was written in the stars. The next couple of years were just like an ordinary love story for any other couple I guess. We stick together with each other, and made it through months of long-distance relationship from time to time due to our school or work. We were so in love, that throughout the years, there was not even one single moment at all where we quarreled with each other, which was pretty rare for me as someone who has a debater personality and always likes to stir shit around. Back then, as a self-obsessed, rebellious young adult who always had way too many heartless jokes, deep inside I had felt like an island, so when someone could finally reach the shore and light up my life, it truly felt like us against the world sometimes. I was pretty sure that I had found the love of my life, who then went through thick and thin with me, giving me unconditional support to pursue my dreams, taking care of me when I fell sick a couple of times including an unexpected eye surgery in 2015. And this video right here was something I did in 2012 with Westlife.CN for Westlife right before the band split - I still remember years later when both of us revisited this video, we joked about me singing in this video and acting cool. In early 2017, we started to plan our wedding (targeted Dec 2018). We picked a couple of Westlife songs we both love, such as I Do, As Love Is My Witness, Nothing’s Gonna Change My Life For You, Written In The Stars, etc. It all felt like we were going to grow old with each other. Today, 10 Aug, 2019, Westlife is back in Singapore again for The Twenty Tour concert after they announced their reunion in Oct 2018. And I am going to attend the concert, without my precious one. Time, to me, has ceased on 9 Jul 2017, when we lost our angel after months of post-lung-surgery struggles. Sometimes I wonder if things would be any different if I had done more, but there is no room for regret. The first few months after the incidence were indeed depressing. Those sleepless miss you nights were the longest. It was also the time when my start-up wasn’t doing well. I had no idea how I made it through, and it is hard to believe that it has been 2 years. The only thing I remember now is that through those hopelessness and darkest days, it was the love we once had that guided me home, and gave me the strength to stand up, fight again, and carry on. With that spirit (and perhaps a lot of luck), here I am today, with a thriving career (start-up survived the hardest times), working on volunteer projects in my spare time for causes we both care for, fighting for dreams we once shared. My family & friends have been telling me that it is time to move on, but I can’t really think about this idea. It just seems that the amount of energy I have gained from this relationship is sufficient to fuel myself up through the rest of my life. Silly, you taught me to be responsible and trustworthy, yet maintaining the level of energy to pursue courage and freedom which I always cherish - you made me a better man, and I am blessed to have had you in my life. I will always carry a part of you with me, keeping you safe in my heart, til the last mile of the way. I have never had a chance to say these face to face, so I am jotting down some lines here. Maybe in another world, you and I, we are watching this video together, and that is a parallel universe where we will be happy ever after, and I can keep my promise. I will see you again. You never really left.

Almost all the legends are from The Netherlands! And I'm Dutch so I really loved this year. I also really liked that Jeremy Renner did that year. I live you Jeremy Renner, I'm a hawkeye fan.
