Good video. Some modifications I would make would be add a amsteel bridge for your tether attachment. Also I would get a 30 foot (appropriate saddle rope) and get a madrock safeguard, Grigri, and attach it as a tether going up. I’m using a singing rock descender with 11mm rope but the above 2 can be used with smaller rope. Reason I’m mentioning this is, last year I had my 1 stick kick out on me and swing me to the side of the tree. Took me a bit to get back onto the tree and my 1 stick. Lesson learn with that slip was my adrenaline was running high and made it difficult to get back onto the tree and 1 stick because the tree was also slanted. After reassessing my set up. I now just use my 30ft rope with my descending device as my tether climbing up now and in case of a fall. I can just descend down instead of hanging in the tree with a few feet of rope only. I have since made adjustments to my 1 stick and use it the rest of the season without a problem. Remember safety first.

I kept freezing and enlarging that bigger buck and I think he's an 8! I was also thinking that in early October, those bucks might still be in bachelor groups. A lot if years they are still together in early October out in west Texas.

Yes I had to double look over that bigger buck and he seems to be an 8 point. Yes I think they will still be in a bachelor group till maybe mid October and then they most likely will go thru their sorting out and split up until after mating season ends

Pro tip. If you can get a decent view, drop your cameras down to no more than chest high, maybe even crotch high. You are going to miss animals that walk close to the camera. The trigger is pretty narrow, especially close in. Yall are doing a great job so far!
@Carlos-Mancilla17 күн бұрын
Thanks for the pro tip. I'll keep that in mind since I know at least one of the cameras had a branch in the way. I had one take a bunch of blanks since it was windy and it picked up motion from tree branches.
@Brownwood0917 күн бұрын
. Yeah, it can ge the same down low. Blowing grass will trigger the camera. That's why we have so many blanks at the ranch.
@Carlos-Mancilla17 күн бұрын
@Brownwood09 yes I came to realize that once I started messing around with the cameras. I do like the video and photo quality these cameras take.

Look for drainages, creeks and draws. The deer will use them like highways. Also oak flats, preferably white oak. The most critical thing about public land is to scout the other hunters. Once the season starts, the deer will go wherever the hunters aren't. Sometimes that's deep in the woods, but sometimes it's not. Of most hunters are humping deep into the woods, the deer will hang out close to the roads and entry points. Best public land buck I ever killed was about 50 yards from a main logging road in a 3 year old clear cut. If there is logging there, 3 to 5 year old clear cuts are awesome.
@Carlos-MancillaАй бұрын
No logging and from what I’ve been told by the wildlife biologist and game warden not much hunting happens there. We bumped 4 hogs this past weekend and saw a doe and a bit of promising deer sign.
