Because they provide a better service. faster download speeds and it's free. If a paid/subscription service can not provide that they don't deserve customers. That and Crunchyroll lost me when it tried to become a monopoly, and has also stripped the western anime Community of DVD/Blu-Ray releases. They even bought Rightstuff just so they could make sure fewer anime were released on Hard Media, as it was the best place to go. Unlike some, I actually liked buying anime I liked. Crunchyroll has made it VERY DIFFICULT TO DO THIS! As if they hate money. I mean every anime Crunchyroll gets it's hands on never makes it to disk anymore. I'm still waiting for the Youjo Senki movie on Blu-ray. Waiting for the Apothecary Diaries as well. Crunchyroll is ruining anime in the west.

The funny part about that estimated loss of revenue due to piracy. Anime revenue wouldn't even reach near that number to begin with if it wasn't for pirated websites.. because that's where 90% of anime fans across the world came from (pirated sites). Ironic how piracy is what made anime even popular to begin with and now they are backstabbing the ones who helped them gain fame and popularity to begin with. While being dilutional enough to think that anime would be anywhere as popular as right now without pirating, let alone projecting that much revenue. 😮‍💨

I still believe anime companies should open up donation websites, and allow us to donate to individual animes - not everyone wants to pay for 10 streaming services and not everyone wants to fill their tiny apartment with junk Also streaming services in my country sucks when it comes to anime, and you have to pay big bucks for a somewhat decent selection of it - it is so difficult and/or expensive to watch a specific anime in my country, even those that cash out on services still end up on pirating sites more often than you'd expect

The real reason is that when you make a bunch of nerds pay a lot for less on multiple streaming services, the nerds work around it. With streamio being a thing you can easily get multiple services and watch it "comfortably-ish", the problem with that is that those streaming services are generally bad, they censor, drop and trash our favorite shows on top of making them exclusive so you can enjoy ONLY their bad quality services. the translation is often bad, no comment section, the sound is often corrupted and to top it all off, look at "Seven Deadly Sins" and what became of it. when the "pirated" content is considerably better and is free, that's what you watch (it releases faster, translates better and is often better quality as well which is just ridiculous really as well as ALL IN ONE SOURCE meaning they can enjoy seeing what the community thinks of it and gets to bond or rage over it respectably). and i said "pirated" in quotes because that the industry consciously chose to allow those sites to get them their fans, and their merchandise money. Of course the greatest reason is that there are no streaming services hosting the new shows releasing every season, i mean if you watch late you'll get spoiled and those who watch it late can't find a streamer sometimes anyway (besides the big titles which usually get a streamer but that's usually two or three shows out of over 20 shows per season). Also your take on the music industry is BAD, local shows are often pirated abroad, game piracy is so high they started making games free, the greatest content streamer is the free platform "KZbin". the reason music piracy was solved is that a music streaming service hosting all or almost all music on ONE music streaming service was created. Overall the video was great it's just unfortunate in my opinion that you missed exact cause.
