"Mere" would be the wrong word to use. Ideally, we would all live in a peaceful anarchy, which Star trek technology could provide. No need for rulers then. What could they provide that the technology couldn't?
@ManAtDeskProductions29 күн бұрын
A question I fear is beyond the purview of a “mere” fan content production group 😂 The phrase “Mere Anarchy” was chosen from Yeats’ “The Second Coming”: each of the episodes of Season 1 have a similar naming convention.

That was a very good production! Everyone sounded natural, and I believed you were on a starship. I like the snarky little Intelligence Officer, she reminds me of Mable on Gravity Falls. The one constructive criticism I have is is the same I have for a lot of productions: music (even as awesome as what you produced) is a tool to accent/punctuate the mood or situation, not a filler. Someone needs to study the old radio plays to get the knack of when to use music and when not to. There should be periods of just background noises and talking, or silence. In this audio drama, there were times the music was not perfectly balanced with the dialogue. That sometimes works in video where your audience can see what's going on, but not in an audio drama/radio play. Adam Mullen did the exact same thing in his Project Defiant, probably because he's a consummate MUSICIAN. I'd like to suggest a perk for your fans: if you have individual songs already created for your series, you could upload them each individually in order like an old school record album. Thanks!

@@HarrisFilmProductions The soundtrack for our previous Trek works (season 0 and the three short films) are all available on Bandcamp for free download for fans, and the same will be true of this season as well. I’d encourage you to check that music out if that’s in your field of interest 🙂 Good catch on the balance issues: balance is a difficult thing to achieve, not just because of having so many cast with different kit, but also because “balance” sounds different between different sound setups (when editing this, headphones sound different to the speaker we use). We tried to match sound using decibel levels in the edit, but it’s a work in progress as always, and we’d like to hope we’re always improving. As to the note about overuse of music and using silence - speaking for myself, I’m probably closer to self-identifying as a “musician” than much else (except a writer, which is my “proper” craft), so my instinct (right or wrong) is to write music for scenes. It’s an instinct that has been curbed usually only when working with other people, rather than on my own productions, where no one tends to call me out on it. It was an added challenge on this piece because I’d never done Star Trek music before starting this project, which has a different “vibe” to my usual Doctor Who stuff. Honestly, I’m just glad to have gotten this out in anything resembling passable condition 😂 I’m glad you liked the episode, though! The second episode is due in January 🙂🖖

Is the USS Carter named for anyone or anywhere in particular? I just thought it'd be a fun tribute if it was named after Captain Alan Carter in Space 1999. This feels like it's going to be the springboard into a much bigger adventure.
@ManAtDeskProductions7 ай бұрын
So, this is essentially a prequel fan film for both the audio series of Star Trek: Venture, and the series “Star Trek: Morningstar” on the SergeantBeckett channel. So yeah, it is effectively a springboard 😁 You’d have to ask Sergeant Beckett who the Carter was named for, since that’s his ship 😊

I remember the battle of midnight, and I think I know how it ended, but I don’t know if I’m allowed to say; I mean, staff never put me under oath, about what I saw, but just in case, I’ll just say I was scanning for tachyons when the battle ended, and leave it at that.

It shows how good a production is when the only niggle I can mention is that the Captain's uniform didn't seem to fit very well. Maybe I'm just used to Capt Picard being the model of a leader, and only ever needing to slightly adjust his uniform at a point of emphasis. Interesting use of the ships and tying in their histories. I had wondered even before Geordi rebuilt the D if there'd ever be a situation when Starfleet would use every available ship, including those in the museum and scrapyards. I expected that to be more for battles against the Borg or Dominion. If I remember the quote correctly it's no plan survives *first* contact with the enemy. I think that it's that so as to imply how you adapt a plan. Obviously it'd be fun to slip in a "First Contact" reference anyway. 🙂
