I was told years ago, (from my Optometrist) that contact lenses for me was a no go due to the way my eyes are. While I wish I didn't have to wear glasses, and that my vision was better than it is, I'm not going to put my eye health at risk. I'm happy to wear my glasses when I cosplay anyway. 🙂👍🏻

We’re sorry @chellebellecosplay that you missed our full Armored combat shows and our full encampment at both the New Hampshire Ren Faire and at the Maine Ren Faire. We have been at NHRF since 2014 and at MERF since 2018. We are also at both Vermont Winter and Vermont summer ren faires. Also additionally, NHRF won 2nd place in the northeast for the 2024 national Renaissance Festival awards. Maryland ren can in 1st. We, the Brotherhood of the Arrow and Sword, came in 2nd place ourselves in the large physical act category for this year’s awards as well. You can also check out some of our videos from these faires on our page here on KZbin. If you do come back to NHRF we invite you to come see our shows.

Updates/edits/corrections! Thank you to my fellow rennies for the info <3 I'll continue updating this comment as I learn more! -The Brotherhood of the Arrow and Sword have encampments and armored combats shows at both New Hampshire and Maine -New Hampshire typically DOES have a joust! It didn’t happen in 2024 due to the loss of a horse :( -As of the 2024 season, KRF accepts credit cards at some food locations -Maine has purchased land for a permanent faire ground and will be moving locations some time in the future

NHRF does have a joust! Unfortunately this past year they were unable to perform due to a loss, but they typically do have jousting. They also have the Brotherhood of Arrow and Sword, who do fighting reenactment, so knights in armour wailing on each other.

I have gone to the CTRF every year for several years now and have seen it grown throughout the years. It also has something that most ren faires don't have. They don't just accept dogs coming to the faire. As long as it is a leashed pet and can show their needed shots they can come in, so I have been bringing my 3 (yes, I said 3) ferrets to the faire with me. They have a wonderful time and so many people want to pet them. (If a faire says it accepts pets, they usually only accept dogs.) And I have 2 friends of mine who are in mobility scooters who I meet up at the faire. As long as it hasn't rained the week before they go, they have no problem seeing every single vendor. I also have a food allergy (corn) and am able to bring in snacks I can have.

You can bring food into CTRF as well. Just no outside alcohol. I loved KRF in the early 90s, but it went downhill so fast after they changed ownership. I used to vend at CTRF and surrounding festivals and they put so much heart into the fair. I know they've been looking for a hard site.

Good video overall but a couple of points for clarification. NHRF does actually have a joust. They didn’t in 2024 due to a horse death unfortunately. NHRF and CTRF both also have actors doing a storyline as well and they circulate around the Faire interacting with patrons throughout the day. NHRF is trying to fix the super long food lines issue and will have several more food vendors in 2025. You should definitely check out VTRF and the winter Faire in VT too.

That's great to know about the NHRF joust! I attended in 2023 as well as 2024 but it's very possible I missed the joust or forgot it happened. I'll look forward to it next year!

In the future you might also think about: Midsummer Fantasy Faire in Astonia, CT -- I've been a few times and it was fun Wynonshire Renaissance Faire in Winchendon, MA -- I haven't been, but it appears to be run by the same people as the Enchanted Orchid (but note it is a community park) There are 2 faires in Essex Junction VT (northern VT), one indoors in the winter, and a summer faire run by the same folk. I haven't been to either.

Great job on the review. Very honest and personally think it is very fair ratings overall. Putting bathrooms at the top of your list, brilliant. Only thing that was missing, and to be honest it’s not missed by most would be merchants. Variety and quantity would have been a nice add, but overall great job. You gained a follower today
@ChelleBelleCosplay2 ай бұрын
I realized I'd forgotten that topic after posting! To be honest I don't know how insightful I'd be, since I see a lot of the same merchants travel from faire to faire. If I had to pick the faire with the most unique selection of merchants, it would be King Richard's!

I've seen groupons for KRF where you can get in for half price, but they're super specific weekends, and I think they're already over for this year. Something to keep in mind for the future but doesn't help with the food prices so 🤷🏻♀

I had a whole rant about KRF ticket discounts that I cut for time. In summary, I think they're not worth it because you have to buy far in advance and take a chance on the weather working out.
@havokk182 ай бұрын
@ChelleBelleCosplay if you buy tickets thru the faire you can change the date but I believe it costs a fee and has to be done at a certain time. If they close ( like we did last week for flooding) they refund the ticket to your ticket account so you can choose a different day

@jeancolley89082 ай бұрын
love this break down!!!! another factor I personally throw in (and this one is WAY harder to actually know enough to rank so like.... no judgement on not having it) is how a faire treats it's preformers, staff, and volunteers. NHRF 5/5 part of the volunteer job was checking in if vendors needed like... bathroom break or snacks, and watching their booth so they could go pee! KRF -10/5 the vibes are just rotten and they're bleeding preformers like nobody's business

I’m surprised you didn’t mention the wait time for food at KRF. It’s ridiculously long. Also most booths sell 1-2 items max. So say your friend wants a burger and you want a wrap, you both have to separate and wait 30 min - 1 hour for food then AGAIN for alcohol. It is the most inefficient dining experience ever.
@ChelleBelleCosplay2 ай бұрын
Very true! I try to buy as little food as possible so I don't have to wait in too many lines.
