This was one of the most fun gigs i've ever had! What a story too.... I had been speaking to the LOCUS team about playing the festival for months but nothing was officially offered. I still had a ton of friends attending and DnB is such a big part of my life that I knew I had to attend the fest. I let the Locus team know I'm coming and suggested perhaps a pre-party since I knew so many people were arriving on Wednesday night. They agreed and thought it would be really fun and attempted to find a venue. The weeks went by and no update, but I put together some new tunes on a drive just incase. Fast forward to the Wednesday March 1st, I land in Cancun airport to take the drive down to Tulum where the Locus festival is happening, and I get an email from the promoter informing me they found a spot for the pre-party in just a few hours. I was really excited but had to pick up the rental car, drive about 2 hours to Tulum, eat along the way (ended up having decent food in Playa Del Carmen), check into our accommodations and then make our way to the downtown Tulum area for the party. All while trying to do as much online promo as I could.... I thought with just a couple hours promo this was going to be something very small, perhaps 20-30 people in a small bar. But the thing is, I was excited for that, it is VERY much about quality not quantity, so whomever was there I was going to enjoy DJing for, it fact I was pretty thrilled this was happening. We do all the things we need to do, we race to the venue. As i'm getting out of the cab, two friends and absolutely legends, Dub Phizix & Strategy greet me and we walk into this courtyard together. Right away I knew this was going to be special. The courtyard opened up to a huge outdoor venue with the DJ in the corner and a few hundred people gently swaying to DnB. This was WAY more people that I expected, which was exciting, I also knew that I was going to enjoy playing for this crowd, they were hardcore DnB headz and they were ready to dance, I could feel it. Just a few feet into the space and i'm greeted by friends from NYC as well as friends from across the states that I have not seen in years, a few of them make small cameos in the video, such as when I play Squake's tune at 37:16 and he runs up, such a great moment. Ritesh from LOCUS played a short set before me I went on, deep classics, really good music, slow build, intricate, excellent. That really set them up for my set. I'll was very happy with the vibes and the feedback, I had people coming up to me all week complimenting my set, and that meant a lot to me. Even a few of the headliners mentioned to me that they heard how much the pre-party went off for my set which was super cool to hear! The promoters must have been impressed because a few days later I was officially added to the festival, and that is a story for another time..... MUCH love to anyone listening to this, and/or still reading ;)
