Before we standardized on the Greenwich Meridian, several powers used one or another point of the Canaries as their 0⁰ which was frankly a useful convention, that way only those islands would have both ⁰E and ⁰W in same polity (unless as in one case their westernmost point as 0⁰). Brilliant! But the observational convenience of having the observatory on the meridian won out over convenience of the dat users..

Bill, I was hoping you would make a comment and what an interesting one to make. When I was editing the narration I realised that at one point I had said ‘playa’ instead of ‘puerto’. It was hardly noticeable and I thought I would leave it, I mean who would notice? Then I thought ‘Bill will notice’. So I re-recorded it 😊

I suppose I might notice. Do they call the beach there Playa <SameName>? This was an interesting change of pace for you (iirc there was one island resort before), but I appreciated that you still found a good time-lapse subject. On FB I've beens seeing CaptainKate's CaptainsLog 'reels' lately. A different view on the cruising experience. Also on FB someone commented that the ship 🚢 taking a port visit in Portland ME had more folks onboard than a particular Maine town. I replied that said town matched the ship 1:1 for casinos but as it wasn't the top tier ship, the town's auto racing oval had it one up, only the top tier have kart racing tracks. 😉

Hi Bill. A little tale of me being childish - My wife and I went there because I saw there was a festival on with a food tent and thought 'hmm I fancy some fresh, quality seafood'. When we got there the only food at the festival was pies and sausages. We then moved inland and stopped nearer York where there was a pub that had lobster on the menu. My wife suggested we had some and I replied 'I am not travelling to the sea to eat land animals and I am certainly not travelling inland to eat seafood' so we went home and had a supermarket fish pie. 5 hours driving.

@@themaltedmuse from bitter experience, this Mainer is very picky about sourcing fresh lobster 🦞 away from the seashore. My hometown a half hour inland has one seafood specialist whose tanks I trust. Me, I'd have had the footie meatpie if Ingredients passed anaphylaxis muster, but that's a big ask, HP is probably in the marinade. (No chance they knew what was in the sausage.)

Well done video. Why did you select the hotel through Celebrity...price, convenience...? Did it include a transfer from the airport to the hotel and to the ship for embarkation? Were other hotels available through Celebrity with different pricing and amenities? Did Celebrity offer tours of Athens prior to boarding? I was disappointed with the service in Blu the one time I used aqua class, but that was probably not your experience.

Hi. Thanks for watching and as you have asked a few questions I am going to ask you to think about watching and sharing some of my other posts and maybe subscribing? I don’t have plans to become special on youtube and I make them for fun and to be helpful - but it is nice to get views. To answer your questions - The key is flexibility and considering each trip and aspect for its own merits. We did book the hotel through celebrity along with some transfers and flights. All these elements are separate and can be done with or without the others. We do separate comparisons for each trip we do and we tend to take the best offer. On this occasion we booked late, wanted the security that celebrity would take responsibility of getting us there and they were also the better price. We do tend to use celebrity for flights IF we are arriving only one day before. There are swings and roundabouts each time. Yes other hotels were offered with different prices etc but we had a look at reviews etc and went with this one. I am sure ship tours were available but I tend to avoid them and go with private guides who have cruise insurance. However, this is another reason we chose this hotel - it’s location put us right where we wanted to be so no tour was needed. As for Blu. Like any place loss of service can come to a number of things but I do prefer the extra choice and intimacy of Blu along with the easier flexible dining times. Thanks again. Jim
