In the wonderful ✨Eye Candy✨ category, I feel that you might like Nobuhiko Obayashi's cinema, especially these films : Hausu (1977), Sada (1998), His Motorbike Her Island (1986). Sada, in particular, is very much food coded🍩 while the other ones are simply dreamy-wonderful on the editing/cinematography side. If I could make one or two more recommandations, I also think you would absolutely love the visuals of Matthew Rankin's The Twentieth Century (2019) and Monia Chokri's Babysitter (2022)💖

I'll go with a top six because a top four is too hard for me 😂. TITANE by Julia Ducournau and Dead ringers by David Cronenberg fall into the same category: films that are supposed to be (and to an extent are) disturbing and exploring the sides of human nature we sometimes don't wanna admit exist, but which also turn out to be so tender and heartbreaking that have you sobbing by the end. Then we have Before Sunset by Richard Linklater which I think is the most beautiful, intelligent, sexy, real, touching film ever made with the best ending ever. I think that Before sunset is the best script ever written put to screen. Before sunset is followed by another MASTERPIECE about human relationships, which is "l'important c'est d'aimer" by Andrzej Zulawski. Romy Schneider gives the most breathtaking performance of her career. You'll find yourself with your jaw to the floor already from the opening scene. Then there's "Certified Copy" by Abbas Kiarostami, which is the most original, unique and beautiful exploration of art and relationships as well as the parallels between the two. A very philosophical film that has a twist unlike any I've ever seen to this day. And lastly, Capernaum by Nadine Labaki, which is the film I owe my politicization, my understanding of society, my rage with the state of the world and the important diminishing of my ego. I believe you will LOVE all six of them and I'd love to hear your thoughts either on letterboxd if you review any of them, or as a reply to that comment.

OH WOW! I love this list - I have yet to see most of these but am most excited to watch Certified Copy soon! I love Juliette Binoche :-)

I love love Peau D'ane and Tampopo! Films about food or centered around cooking/eating are so comforting! I would recommend Babette's Feast, The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover, the Cassandra Cat, and Little Otik. There's also a short called The Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome that's visually just stunning. My top 4 movies right now are Happiness, Sitcom, Funny Games, and Cat Soup 😊 Thanks for sharing with us! Would love to hear more about what films move or inspire you and your work! 🥳

Absolute masterpiece Madelynn! I’ve been following your channel for years and it’s like all the experience you got through filmmaking, creative endeavors and your career in KZbin have come together to a single sweet point. Can’t describe how it’s so natural yet so sophisticated. The details, the narrative.. A beautiful (clay) tale :) 🌟

Maddie, I've been watching you for 7 years now, and I absolutely love that there's still a few good (wo)men on yt who make videos to *not* garner views and money, but instead to show the world a slice of their lives or talk about their genuine interests and passions, for it is bc of you that I bought a film camera!!
