Good to know all our comments were skipped and only Facebook comments were selected for their giveaway. Better “luck” next year. 😷 scam 😷

@ElliottReynolds I think you may be misinformed. There was a drawing for 30+ bill credits, 5 of which came here from KZbin. Yes, there were more from Facebook, but that's likely because there were 200+ comments there and only a few dozen here. You are not seeing the "live" comments posted during the broadcast. The KZbin winners included Nathan and Jill Patrick, Laine Erhart, Todd Sinn, Jim and Julie Martz, and Paul and Melanie Strack. You can find the complete list of winners on our website: www.ppec.coop/2024-annual-meeting

Thanks for the info. The average monthly increase is appreciable and a concern.

We truly empathize with members and have worked hard to delay this increase for as long as possible. Our last rate adjustment was in 2018, despite us seeing an average of 40-60% in cost increases for everyday equipment like poles, wires, transformers, etc. since 2020. You can learn more about the increase and see frequently asked questions on our website here: ppec.coop/2024RateAdjustment. If you have further questions, please don't hesitate to call our office M-F between 7:30 am and 4 pm at 800-686-2357. Thanks for being an engaged member of your community co-op!

Thank you for the meeting and the information you've provided on the rather sizable rate increase. Can you please advise why you are continuing some of the expenses that could go toward keeping our rates lower. For instance, the Annual Capital payout and the Member Appreciation Day expenses could both be used to help lower year round rates. Who makes the decision on how cooperative funds are spent?
@PPEC7 ай бұрын
Hi Angela. Great questions! Paulding Putnam's elected Board of Trustees ultimately voted to approve this rate adjustment after analyzing the 3rd party Cost-of-Service Study, which recommended the increase for the long-term financial health of the co-op. As everyone has seen in recent years, the costs of doing business have increased dramatically. Since 2020, our everyday equipment prices have jumped 40-60%. This is a large factor. PPEC's staff and board of trustees work hard to hold down our controllable expenses. (There is a section on how we hold down costs on this webpage, which details the rate adjustment and some frequently asked questions you may find helpful: ppec.coop/2024RateAdjustment) As a not-for-profit, member-owned cooperative, we operate at-cost and are required to return capital credits (patronage) to members based on their electric use and years of membership. As for member appreciation day, we shifted the budget we used to have for this annual meeting (it used to be a large, in-person event but is now an online meeting to cut costs) to appeal more to our growing demographic with families. We surveyed the membership on this and are making the event a joint partnership with another neighboring co-op in 2024 to further help hold down costs. We understand this is a complicated topic. If you would like to speak with our CEO or other staff about this in more detail, please feel free to call our office M-F between 7:30 am and 4 pm at 800-686-2357. We would be happy to review the 2023 Cost-of-Service Study and other factors that led our board to this decision. Thanks for being an engaged member and caring about your community co-op!

We appreciate your understanding, especially with today's economy. Everyday equipment prices are up 40-60% since 2020, and our costs of making sure electricity is reliable to our 13,600+ members continue rising. We have held down costs as much as possible over the last 6 years since our last rate adjustment in 2018, and we will continue offering resources, home audits, rebates, and energy-saving tools to members to help you save. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need anything. Thanks for being a valued member of your not-for-profit co-op and taking time to tune in this morning!

outages and restoration is the main cause of fatalities in the electric coop biz. Production pressure to get the lights back on. production trumping safety. Lagging indicators such as outage statistics used by the coop, send a message to linemen that outages need to be minimized and that there is a rush to restore power. Lagging indicators are not a current picture of safety at a cooperative, instead we need to strive to address leading indicators of safety performance. With lagging indicators, we are constantly looking behind us to gauge our safety, if you are looking behind you constantly at the lagging indicators that have already happened. Leading indicators are the way to gauge safety at coopertives. While lagging indicators can be used to spot trends, we should not tie our safety programs to lagging indicators of safety performance, in my opinion.
@PPEC3 жыл бұрын
Good points, Joe. Thanks for sharing. We never rush outage restoration and instead prioritize tail gates before each job and a purposeful procedure that includes a dedicated observer for a second set of eyes. We are committed to a robust safety program, including our everyday culture around safety. Our main goal is to get every employee home safe to their family every day. Co-op culture is safety culture.
